Today, I am planning my lessons for the Spring Term of my advanced Oral Communication course. As I just reached a lesson that is designed to teach students where to pause when speaking in English. One of the drills, however, is an interesting example of the socializing students with respect their expected gender roles. Specifically, it is a story narrated by a woman who is a highly successful manager in a Japanese company. Then, she has a baby. As a result, she realizes that raising a family is more important for a woman than being professionally successful. So, she gives up her position and becomes a full-time housewife.
Gotta' love Japan. :)
