This week's price: 138 yen
Koyama introduces the price segment again. This week they're talking about things that are changing this year in the food business because of the earthquake. For example, the sale of mid-year gifts (http://www.jp-guide.net/manner/english/season/chugen.html) Goods from areas effected by the earthquake are popular because customers hope they can help support the areas while doing their shopping. Snack companies have also taken to issuing some of their most famous snacks in cans. This way the cookies can hold for years without going stale (so you could buy it for food to put in your emergency pack at home). The price of the week, 138 yen, is the cost of an instant curry mix that doesn't require any heating (made by Curry Tatsujin). Because the instant curry used vegetable oil it doesn't get chunky like the typical instant curry which requires heating.

Back in studio, Koyama chats with a reporter from the economics department about what the government is doing to rebuild from the disaster while the general public and companies are working hard. They discuss how Japan will continue to borrow money and create new loans to help pay to rebuild the north. The government is still arguing over how to pay back for that. They tried to increase taxes but that didn't make it through the Diet.

Amazing Trained Elephants
In studio Koyama is surprised with a painting that reads "every". It was written by an elephant! This leads to a clip about Yumeka, a young elephant in a zoo in Chiba Prefecture. She's able to paint and write based on instructions from her Thai trainer! Because elephants naturally live in groups, they have a high communication ability. They then show a walrus, dolphins and sting rays which know all kinds of commands.

The problem of where to evacuate people during an earthquake when they can't get home
Koyama goes out and talks with a Buddhist monk about how they opened up normally private parts of the complex to let people stranded after the earthquake stay in their temple over night. They also gave food they normally offer to Buddha to the people who came to stay there. The monk comments that he wasn't hesitant to let people in because if they ignored all those people in need Buddha would have been angry! Next Koyama visits a hotel. Like the temple, they also opened their doors and all their ballrooms for people to sleep in. The hotel received many thank you letters afterwords. They had given out curry rice to everyone and many thank you letters expressed gratitude for the warm meal and floor to sleep on.

Ki ni Naru - Mysterious Black Sandblobs
After the earthquake, the waterways around Tokyo were all messed up. The shaking send water moving against the normal flow. And now that it's all died down, one section is left with mysterious black pillars of  There are also islands that have been newly formed in Tokyo bay. Koyama goes out to investigate these strange occurrences.

The weird black sandblobs sticking out of the sand are very hard but crumble when touched. As Koyama investigates he finds out that in the center of each blob is a piece of bamboo! It's believed that these are left over pieces of bamboo that where used for farming seaweed. When the farm closed they cut the bamboo down as far as they could but couldn't cut the bottom part buried under the sand. The earthquake caused the sand to pull away and the bamboo poles resurfaced!

Next Koyama is off to a newly made island in the bay. He finds out the island is made of seashells, mud, salt and sand. It's quite stable to walk on.

Neither the black pillars or the new little islands effect anyone's life dramatically but they are just another sign of the little changes that can be found everywhere since the quake.
