Last night was Awesome with a capital A. The Vasco Era and TZU at the ANU bar, and it went crazy. I randomly bumped into some of my old 'Bundah buddies, and it was great to catch up with them.
As per usual, I got smashed, and danced my arse off. The music was awesome, though it was weird to see the TZU guys picking up guitars, basses, and drumsticks for some of the new songs. But it was all good, and a fun happy vibe.
The ANU bar staff were trying to get rid of everyone after the gig, and it was only 12 - we were all still going strong, so I told the guys to head over to the Phoenix, then, in my loud and shameless drunken state, yelled at everyone still hanging around "come to the phoenix!" and we all met up over there.
The Phoenix was a bit drunken and wild - I havent been there in ages.
I talked to the Vasco Era dudes, they are pretty quiet and simple kinda guys, but nice enough. I had a bloody dude from the Navy following me around all night, trying to talk politics with me, buying everyone drinks and talking shit, it was so funny.
I'm reading this crazy book at the moment, it's called Bullshit and Jellybeans, by a Kiwi guy, Tim Shadbolt. He's now the Mayor of Invercargill, but he wrote this book in 1971, when he was younger, and a bit of an activist and rabble rouser. It's very funny, a good insight into NZ politics and culture in those days, and just a good read.
