What the lj boycott's about

Mar 20, 2008 13:59

I'm officially wading into this thing, and not because I necessarily believe a one-day boycott of partial content will be at all "sending a message" or in any other way effective. I'm making a post about the LJ boycott because I'm getting sick and tired of hearing the third party ass-headers who think they know what's going on because they read ( Read more... )

That's interesting in a semantic way, but it doesn't really address the issue of content providers or customer service. I understand that Russian companies have a very different idea of customer service than European or American or South American or ... hell, anyone other than Indian or South East Asian companies. For Indian or Russian companies the idea of responding to customer requests is ludicrous. The customer should respond to the company or take its business elsewhere. The only times I've received decent customer service have been when I represented customers with a very large pocketbook, or at least the perception of a large pocketbook ( ... )

hm, an intriguing point. i will have to think on this.

still, i think the strike is a dumb idea.

and also, i think you're incorrect in saying that content providers aren't being paid. we are getting something out of all of this. but still, i think you're right, and that privileges like getting the "features" of a paid account really ought to come with the amount of traffic a journal generates rather than as something that is purchased...

I'm not taking sides in this as I think the whole idea is monumentally stupid in the same manner as going without a pizza dinner in an attempt to protest world hunger. You'll never get 1m people to stop posting on LJ, and even if you did it would only be for a single day by their own admission.

I'm just correcting the record as I'm getting tired of self-important assholes getting up on soap boxes decrying something they know nothing about by their very decries. If you know what actually is the issue and still don't care, that's perfectly fine with me and I'll be joining you in that opinion.

I just got frustrated with the whole, "Dude, I think it's about ads or something. That's pretty lame that people are pissed about ads. Yeah, those people are lame and must not have lives."

Of course, why would I stop posting? I have a paid-account. I have this funny belief that people should support the thing they're interested in rather than leach off it. I like a band, I buy their record. I might test the waters with some downloaded mp3s and such but I will go back and buy an album. I liked LJ, so I pay for an account. The $25 a years equates to a little more than $2 a month... I know homeless people that can afford LJ. I'm just kidding, I don't know homeless people.
