Supernatural - meta, opinion, etc

I am now OFFICIALLY up-to-date in SPN. Halle-fucking-lujah!! And so, I'm taking this opportunity to put up my thoughts about s6 and where the plot might go from here. I don't know any spoilers AT ALL, so if you've seen all the eps, you're good. :D

I've only got a few comments. I'll order them because I'm anal retentive like that.

1. Mother of All. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? This plot sucked ass. Yes, thank you SPN writers, for giving us yet another example of how Dean and Sam view themselves in every set of small orphan brothers they meet. WE GET IT ALREADY. And if it took anyone longer than when Bobby first called her "Mother" to get the Mother of All metaphor as Mary, I'd be surprised. SPN fans tend to be a smart bunch when it comes to metaphors. I DO, however, think that bringing back Mary's body as Mother was a bit much. I liked it, of course, but I didn't personally need that extra bit of obviousness. I also thought it really belittled the "actress" (and I use that term VERY loosely) they got to play Mother. She was doing okay. Why steal the best scene away from her? Meh. But in short, this plot was slapdash. Thrown together quickly, tied up TOO quickly and neatly. All foreplay, no climax.

2. War in Heaven. UM, HELLO?!?! This has been going on all season, and Dean and Sam keep ignoring it for their own incestual interests. I'm sorry, but OF COURSE Cas has to figure something else out to do. They weren't even ASKING him how it was going! They dodn't even call Cas unless they need something from him--Rachel had a point there. And I definitely think that Cas is doing NOTHING WRONG. Here's the arguments against him: he lied to Dean and Sam, he willingly worked with Crowley to get what he needed, and he should've gone to Dean and Sam for help. THE HYPOCRISY OF IT ALL. Dean and Sam have lied to each other. They've also worked with Crowley to get what they needed from him on more than one occasion (and against Cas' wishes, if we all recall season 5). And Dean and Sam have both gone off alone when they should have gone to others for help. In fact, when they bitched all dramatically at Cas, I was just like, bitches PLEASE. You KNOW you've done the exact same thing! So, whatever to that.

3. 6x20: The "Dean/Cas" episode. OH GOD. I just have to say this. This ep PROVED to me, once again, that Dean/Cas is so ridiculous and unbelievable that it can NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER happen. Besides the continuous references Dean makes to Cas being naive and childlike, Dean also seems to believe it's his duty to explain to Cas how to behave like a human, or perhaps more to the point, how to act now that he's got free will. I LOVED the scene where Cas is trying to explain free will to the angels, b/c YES. THAT'S IT EXACTLY. Even Cas himself has so little ability to grasp what's going on. I actually saw that episode as really constructing Dean/Sam/Cas/Bobby as a family unit. Dean says something like, "Besides Sam, you and Bobby are the closest I have to family". Of course he takes Sam out of the equation--Sam is Dean's WORLD. It's like when most married (or similar situation) people list their family, first they list their spouse, then kids, then parents and extended family, etc. That's how people think, generally speaking. Dean and Sam are the married couple, Cas is their kid who they're teaching how to act and what's right and wrong in the world, and Bobby is their parental figure who gives them advice and assistance. So that's that, for me. It's all very clear. And one other note: I was WAY disappointed to have an ep entirely from Cas's POV (just like I was disappointed with the Ghostfacers and Bobby eps). I always want SPN to focus on Sam and Dean. When it doesn't, I feel like I haven't watched a real ep.

4. Sam's mental wall. That shit is coming down in the finale. If they don't put Sam into a catatonic tortured state, I will be very sad. That is all.

5. Cas' future. This might shock some people, but Cas is actually NOT part of the team. So I see his future going one of two ways. One: because he's a fan-favorite, they keep him in the show by somehow de-angelfying him, a la whatsherface, the angel Dean fucked. Cas could then try living a human life. Maybe become a hunter and hang with Bobby and be back-up when Dean and Sam need it. But IDK about this because what about Cas' vessel? Why continue to keep that body away from it's true soul if an angel isn't inhabiting it anymore? Besides fanservice, of course. Two: Cas dies, gets killed, or otherwise bites it. Hasta la vista, baby. I'm more hopeful for this one. The tone of SPN has changed since Cas become more regular. I prefer old SPN.

6. Crowley. I was SO GLAD they brought him back! SPN is good like that, with the fan-favorite characters. I hope he hangs around. I mean, they can have recurring characters who don't like Dean and Sam. It's really okay. And his plot is incredibly interesting. I like the idea of him re-inventing hell and that whole deal, but also how he's willing to work with ANYBODY to get what he wants. That's nice. And could lead to very interesting plot.

7. General future of the show. I'm not sure where they're going with s7, but here's my thoughts. I do think that Sam is going to have to deal with hell in a more physical and immediate way then Dean did. I also think Sam's going to have to get some blowback from being such an asshole and working with evil all the fucking time. I think Dean's going to have to deal with not being able to fix whatever's wrong with Sam. Hm. Hm. I also think that the show will end in one of two ways: they die in a blaze of glory, or they ride off into the sunset in the Impala together. That's it, really, when you think about it.

8. Lisa and Ben. I almost forgot them because I HATE THEM and block them out. But, to be fair, here goes. It made NO SENSE that Ben thought of Dean as family. He was some random guy living with them for a year. The kid needs therapy. And Lisa's already moved on. She's dating, after all. And really, nobody wants Lisa and Ben around ANYWAY, so I hope they DIAF or are eaten by wild BEARS. Or, even better, live out the rest fo their lives in peace away from Dean so that we never hear or see anything of or about them ever again. YES. THAT.

That's about it. So, feel free to comment. In the meantime, I'll be catching up on every other fandom in the world. And hopefully posting more--thoughts/meta, ep discussions, fanfic, etc.

HOMG H50 YAYZ!! I'm going home to watch 1x23 RIGHT NOW!! I R EXCITE!! ♥
