It is only hours away from Final Fantasy 13’s release. Since I’m such a fan, I thought I’d post some of my persona speculations on the game’s storyline.
It is quite obvious that in the beginning of the game, Lightning has all intentions to save her sister, Serah, all by herself. Sazh decides to follow her because he has nowhere else to go (reason still unknown, likely to relate to his son). Snow, Serah’s fiancée, joins Lightning and Sazh inside that triangle flying thing where Serah is held captive. Vanille and Hope eventually join Lightning and co as well because Hope needs to find out what happened to his mother, who fell off the sky pathway thingy along with Snow after the troops bombed it and it broke. Fang appears to side with the troops at first, and will be the last to join the party.
Judging from the music I have heard so far for the game, including background music and theme song, there is little hint of tragic sadness in it. For example, if compared with FF10’s Zanarkand bgm, FF13’s atmosphere is not so chest-tightening sad.
In the concept art, Lightning is in the middle of the page. Judging by how often Snow and Serah are place together in various promotion art, CD jackets, etc, I actually think this couple will last until the end. Since the director of the game says there will be a touching ending, I am speculating that perhaps something will happen to Lightning in the end. I don’t think she will necessarily die, but some sort of sacrifice is very likely. For Serah, for snow, or for the world? Final Fantasy 13’s logo is very interesting. Is the image of the woman changing to a dragon-like being related Lightning’s destiny? We shall find out in the game.
