A large problem with the Middle East is that their education system is left up to the Islamic clerics. This creates a populous that only knows how to make decisions based upon a book of religion.

The stronger religious institutions become, the narrower the culture. With the rise of the Baptist (evangelical) movement in the South during the late 60s and early 70s, a wave of emotional (as opposed to analysis) based Christianity swept though the US. A trend of shunning reason for religious emotional highs is the root problem behind the fall of American freedom and liberty.

In Spokane, there was not a single "Yes on 71" to be seen. I pulled out a total of 12 "No on 71" signs throughout the season (if I actually lived in the city, I would have pulled more). After some research, I found that the sole providers of the red signs were from religious institutions. No surprise, really, but an unfortunate and obvious violation of the separation between church and state.

Was 71 a victory? No. Hell no. The main argument the religious voters have against ghey marriage is that it breaks their cult's definitions of marriage. Fine, ref 71 was designed to give us the same rights without the word marriage. I personally think that the entirety of the US would be better off with the word marriage dropped from the government's vocabulary. Even with marriage not a part of the ref., it still barely passed. This tells me that people aren't voting for any reason other than they have learned to hate their religious-based preconception of gays. It's not because they know who we are as people, it's because they think they know who we are as demons.

...I just realized I'm starting to rant. Sorry! *laughs* It's not often I find someone on my friend's list that's politically active. =P
