Reject DB 5688 Effort Comes Up Short

Wow. I've never seen such a bad display of trying to find the "silver lining". Not even a mention of god or god's will in this one.

Their attempts to point out their "win" in most counties is stretched so thin it hurts me even to read it. You can almost hear the plaintive cry of "it's not our fault". Claiming that even with an underfunded campaign they got 48% of the vote.. As if it wasn't a given that it would be close even without their lies and FUD.

Amongst the write ups currently in circulation are some interesting ideas about this off-year election results.

Progressive Candidates Won in King County because of Referendum 71 being on the ballot

Not beyond the realm of belief, and certainly not one I can say was a bad result if it was or wasn't true.

Now the bad news. Even though I pushed and goaded and campaigned everyone I knew to vote for this, it does me no good.

From my comment on tkat's journal:
Yep. Not bad at all.

However in the "Grand scheme" as much as I pushed and goaded people into voting this year for it, it doesn't mean much of anything to me.

Currently legal thinking is that, because there's no recognition at the Federal level for same-sex relationships, and there's no "stream" for those in same-sex relationships to use to slicken the green card/immigration process, that foreign nationals on a visa in a relationship with a US native should not make use of state-specific domestic partnerships/civil unions/marriage in the states where they are available.

The reason being that visa's are "temporary" and as such I'm supposed to leave when the Visa runs out. Though it's never been tested (as far as I know), the theory is that the Feds could use the fact you went for one of these "state specific" family building things as a sign that you intend to *not* leave when your visa has expired and as such could use that as grounds to terminate the visa early.

So, until there's protection at the Federal level, all these state specific things, while nice, don't help me in the least. :(
