"Smells like a funeral in here…”
Seo Joohyun managed to let out an irritated groan in response to the annoying voice of the person who she was hoping not to see in the period of her recovery. “It is going to be one if you don’t get your ass out of my room.” The sound of her voice was muffled by the thick blanket of one month old.
She felt like grabbing her pillow and throwing at Cho Kyuhyun when he started moving around the room, ignoring her threat. Too bad, she didn’t have the energy to crawl all the way to the end of the bed.
She didn’t need to open her eyes to know that he was smirking over her distraught state, how messy her room was or maybe even both. She wasn’t going to bother being Seohyun of Korea’s number one girl group - Girl’s Generation today.
“Wow, he must be one hell of a pretend 'husband' to be able to fuck you over this much.” Kyuhyun said light heartedly as he propped himself down next to her on the bed. “Should I be jealous? You weren’t even half as screwed up when it was ‘us’.” He sounded like he was joking with the raspy chuckles and the forceful smile etched across his face but she knew better, she might not be the only person with a broken heart today.
Joohyun smiled for the first time in a long while. So she rolled over, pushed herself off the smelly mattress and hugged her knees tight as she sat up next to him. She doesn’t give him an answer; she doesn’t reach over and touch his hand like in some cliché movie she would make him watch in the summers. She smiled and he smiled, they didn’t need words - he understood, she understood, they have reached an understanding.
“You really love him, huh?”
Yeah but not quite as much as I loved you.

Am I supposed to be doing all the chasing?
He loves her, he doesn’t love her, he loves her, he doesn’t love her...
Jung Yonghwa thinks he’s a coward - he never had the guts to go after what he wants. Actually he was never sure of what he wanted; he can’t seem to ever make a decision by himself. His career was solely based on others’ views and thoughts, never his own. ‘Things should be different, things will be different’ He thought but never quite got there.
Then came Seohyun in all her glory with perfect hair and perfect life. He knew, he would never be able to measure up but she loves him despite all his flaws. Yonghwa wasn’t sure if he felt the same.
He avoids answers and questions all his life - Seohyun was one of them. She asked too many questions - How do you feel about me? What do you want to do about ‘us’ now that the show has ended? Am I supposed to be doing all the chasing? Why can’t you be the one chasing after me? So he doesn’t pick up her calls or answer her question text messages and block her out completely.
“I love you and if you have the slightest sympathy, you would give me an answer - a bad one or a good one.”
She gave up and left one last voice mail of defeat. He felt like the wall have caved and the world has crumbled down. Yonghwa knew he had broken her heart but her question was still left unanswered after a month.
“I have always imagined you would be the first to say those earth shattering three words but I guess, I was being naïve. Do you want me to wait or not? Make up your mind…please?”
She was on her knees and he knew it. He deleted the message without a second thought. He doesn’t want to think about it, any of it - her, the show, them. Did ‘us’ even existed? He wondered. Yonghwa thinks he's cruel, he was leaving her at the end of the road while she waited him to come pick her up - he realized, he never might get there. She might never get an answer.
“I don’t want you to wait.”
That was the one time, Jung Yonghwa had managed to make a decision - the right one. As he lied down on the couch of his empty dorm with his phone gripped tightly in his hand and a broken heart in another. He was positive he loved her more than ever, maybe even too much and he was even more positive that he can’t make her happy.
