This week's "worst parenting award" goes to.... *drumroll*

1) Child has a chronic, serious condition. (In this case, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, not that I expect many readers of this journal to really know what that is.)

2) We call mother on 3/11/08 saying, "We have recieved your child's labs and we need to increase her medication." Mom says, "Okay." We say, "Can you give us a pharmacy number so we can call that prescription in?" Mom says, "I will call you right back with it."

3) Cue endless waiting.

4) Mom calls back on 3/25/08, that would be two weeks later, with pharmacy phone number. She calls in at 4:45 PM. Then she states that her child is all out of the medication (no mention of the required increase in dose), and we have to call it in RIGHT NOW OR HER CHILD WILL DIE.

5) Cue endless sniggering.

Seriously? That mom is lucky she got Francisca, our *nice* employee, because I don't think either Karasu or I could have held back the impulse to start laughing.

Epilogue: I did call in the scrip before I went home that evening. I told Dr. H. about this and he said, "What would she have done if we closed at 4:30?" I said, "Called your cell phone at 9 PM demanding you do it. Duh."

I would probably be angry at this mom if it weren't so funny. =D
