Half-a-weekend, so far

Dec 16, 2012 08:54

I did end up stepping away from the internet for a while, there.

Friday night was my partner's office holiday party, and while I wasn't really in a partying mood, I was in an open-bar mood. One of his colleagues has a brother in that area of Connecticut, and he has two children in a different area school--children he and his wife had adopted through DSS. She was talking about how they might leave the area for break, just to try and retain some normalcy for these kids who are already traumatized.

Other than that, there wasn't much talk of Sandy Hook, which was fine. I talked to Cassie about it when she got home, believing that it's better to introduce her to the news on my terms than to let her hear about it elsewhere. And then I had her pack up for an overnight at kcobweb's place. Q just stayed there until the party was over.

And then the next day we spent most of the day hanging out there as well. I couldn't get Q to nap in their spare room, which was disappointing, since he managed to go to sleep there while we were at the party. So I bundled him in the car and we drove for about an hour. Jay was painting his bedroom, so I couldn't just put him in bed. I had planned to take Cassie to the high school's production of A Christmas Carol, but when we got home I got violently ill. I climbed into bed, and alternated sleeping with reading Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality in my kindle.

I'm going to try and see if I can read my FB feed or any news coverage without my heart breaking. Doubtful.
