The power of being valued
Wow... Monday I put in my 2 weeks notice with my current employer. I accepted a conditional offer with a new company and it was time for me to let my boss know when my last day was. Da boss was really blown away. The look on his face showed me that he really was not expecting me to leave, and he was in a little bit of denial. I never thought I was considered so valuable to the group or the company.
I thought I would just put in my resignation letter and work on transitioning my duties. My boss had other ideas. He called up other sections of the company to see if they had positions for me that were more in line with my career path. When I told him my plans, I told him truthfully that I was leaving because I was not happy doing support and I wanted to do more administration and eventually do security work. Now I may have my dream job and it is in the company I am leaving. The details are still being worked on, but it is an interesting turn of events.
I am a little pissed that it took my resignation to see all this, but at the same time, I feel good that my efforts here have been recognized. The next few days will be interesting.
