This's going to be a pretty short update, I'm afraid. I didn't feel up to
playing for very long today.
After hearing stories of Shy Guys going into the abandoned house in the
southwestern part of town, Mario checks it out. As soon as he's inside...
The Shy Guy cheeses it, and mario thinks back to what one of the Toads
said earlier about becoming invisible. Using Bow's power, he does, and
the Shy Guy re-enters.
The wall rotates, and it disappears into a heretofore hidden back room.
Mario follows it, and finds a childishly-decorated room, as well as:
Using the spring, Mario shrinks and disappears into the toy box.
What heathen place is this that Mario's arrived in? Is now the time to pay
for--*ahem* A toybox with an entire world inside it? I wonder if Gumby's
going to show up...
Following the tracks, Mario finds a pair of very sad black-clad Toads
loitering around the station.
We have the station and the tracks and everything...but the train's
missing!
Mario, being the sympathetic soul he is, says he'll keep his eyes open for
their train and goes exploring.
Awesome, it's a giant novelty switch! :D
This place is called "Shy Guy's Toybox," so where are the Shy Guys?
Right here!
They occasionally do acrobatic attacks that have an attack power of 3.
Who knows what lies in the hearts of these troublemakers? I guess they're
dangerous, but they're pretty small time.
Someone should remind them about that whole Weed of Crime bearing bitter
fruit thing.
Mario bespies a treasure chest, and an oddly gray-clad Shy Guy guarding
it.
Get away from that treasure chest, pal!
It's mine, see?
Don't mess with me!
Reckoning that whatever's in the chest is important, Mario challenges the
Shy Guy to a fight.
You wanna fight? Are you nuts? You don't wanna mess with me!<3 Are you
sure ya wanna fight?
What!! Well, all right...
I do love a challenge!<3
Here it comes, pal!
Don't say I didn't warn you!
His attack power is 12 when he does an acrobatic attack, so dodge it!
This guy is for real, so we'd better take him seriously.
The ensuing battle is intense, with many close calls for Mario, but he
eventually prevails to claim his prize: a Power Plus badge! ...Mario
isn't quite sure whether it was worth all that trouble.
Beyond the chest is another variant on the noble Shy Guy:
They shake their booties to call in reinforcements.
They also spin around in front of you and make you feel dizzy.
These rock 'n' rollers are a drag, so let's ditch 'em as fast as we can.
This is the first time in the game where the choice of language
distracted me. "Rock 'n' rollers"? I would've just gone for a few Ren
Faire references, myself. Anyway, I have a real problem avoiding their
dizzy attacks.
In the next room of the Toybox, Mario witnesses an odd phenomenon:
It looks as if Shy Guys lack advanced technology such as shopping bags or
pockets. An entirely different Shy Guy has something important balanced
upon his pate:
Meanwhile, in another part of the toybox, a chest stands, alone and
unguarded.
...Well, it had been alone. Kammy raises her wand and summons Mario's most
infamous and feared foe:
Uh... I think...
That doesn't look like the sort of thing that'd bother Mario.
I wonder if I should really trust what Peach says...
Well...it doesn't matter.
King Bowser ordered it.
And he's the boss!
Having set the trap, Kammy flies off.
Shortly, Mario finds an unusual box:
After some experimenting, Mario discovers that he can use it as a
springboard to reach higher ground, and thus encounter:
We can attack the balloon, too. Once they fall, they're just like
normal Shy Guys.
I wish I had a balloon so I could float... That looks awesome!
Shy Guy flies, and so does my heart~
Mario sees the fruit of Kammy Koopa's labor, and is so frightened he
can't help but devour the 'shroom in one bite. Having vanquished his
mighty foe, Mario opens the treasure chest.
He takes his newest acquisition back to the train station and talks to the
blue Toad.
I wonder who they stole it from. Whoever it was must be mad.
Having run out of options for now, Mario makes his exit and sets about
returning the stolen items to their rightful owners.
First, Rowf in the Badge Shop:
You're telling me...you got it back from the Shy Guys?
Yeah! In your face, Shy Guy! I can open my shop again!
Oh, man, how can I repay you? I know! Take this!
This is a special badge, bud, so use it with care.
Rowf's Son: Dad says we could've gone out of business if we hadn't
gotten that calculator back.
We can open the shop again! All because of you!
Thank you, mister!
Next, the shop Toad:
I can't stay in business if I can't get into my storeroom!
What in the world will I do?!
Mario produces the key and hands it over to him.
All right, Mario!
You did it! You got back my storeroom key!
Thank you so much!
You saved my livelihood!!
The toad runs over to unlock the storeroom.
Tell you what. Take anything you like from the storeroom.
It's just a little thank-you for getting my storeroom key back.
Mario checks it out, and finds something very interesting:
The plumber returns to the Toy Box and shows it to the ticket-taker, who
is not impressed.
Put that back in its toy box!
Good idea!
In it goes!
Voila!
And that's it for today's update. See you all next time!
