So this love...
My neighbor was cleaning out her mother's things and instead of just throwing everything out she put them in the garage to go through later. She was glad (and so was I) that she did because among a pile of recipes she found her parents' engagement photo circa WWII. Her father proposed while he was still in the army so he was wearing his uniform. There was also a stockings/lingerie box filled with love letters from around the same time. Her father had carved a heart from a piece of a Nazi plane and sent it to her.
World War II relationships sound so romantic and just scream this is love.... Of course the thousands of movies based on WWII and similar situations help romanticize even more. I'll never experience having a relationship similar to that and what saddens me more is that I'll never even find such treasure among my family's things.
