The World's Most Impractical Bathing Costume :)

For those of you not going to Costume College, a preview of my insanity.

Ever since I saw it, I there was a black silk taffeta bathing suit I wanted from 1920s Fashions from B. Altman & Company and yesterday, the discovery of a piece of black silk taffeta about two yards long, and a smallish piece that had been used to cut bias strips made me think that I could possibly make one before Costume College. An here are the results!

It's way cuter in person because, well, black silk taffeta and flash go together about as well as black silk taffeta and water!

I'm just going to be wrapping a piece of China silk around my hair because I don't have time for a bathing hat or cap.

It was really very easy to make. I used the robe de style bodice as a base, just changing the neckline and getting rid of the side pieces and making it pull over my head and lengthening to make a skirt. Then the ruffles. Tons of ruffles! But so fun! It's unlined with really badly done flat felled seams. I'm not good at doing those on the machine, but they're on the inside and don't do anything structural to this. And I'm way too amused that I did it. I finished 28 hours after I started, and that includes doing lots of other things!
