Today I met someone who's half-brother is also her cousin. Try wrapping your head around that one. (Her mother slept with this guy at age 14 and had her, and then this guy married her mother's sister, and they had a child a couple years ago.) Small town, whut.
Also, I learned how to make esfirras today. Wikipedia's
English article doesn't really describe what they are here in Brazil (and the picture isn't what I learned how to make); the
Portuguese article is better, as are the pictures over there. They're triangle-shaped pastries with delicious, delicious veggie filling (though I think they're usually made with meat; I've had such good luck with people working around my vegetarianism here!).
The vegetarian ones that we learned how to make today are amazing, and the filling is really malleable. I had to get up at 5:45am to get the lesson, but now I have the recipe.
I have so many flashy recipes from Brazil - mostly desserts, but some real food, too. Visitors to my house in C-bus are going to be in for a treat! Any takers? (
