Wasting Time.

Jan 15, 2010 03:03

So, I went to sleep around 4 am last night...er, morning. It's turning into my bed time, which isn't good because college is starting in t-minus two weeks. I woke up at 1:00 pm, made myself some breakfast and sat in front of my laptop. I browsed LJ, FB, and other sites. Computer/TV took up most of the day.

Possibly, a reader: MY, WHAT AN EXCITING LIFE YOU HAVE!

Buddy, ever stop to think that you don't have to being doing the prototypical hobbies to have a good time? Someone spoke to me today about how they thought it was ridiculous that one is able to watch TV for the rest of one's life if one so chooses. Why not? If you enjoy it, why the hell not.

This is a quote I live by: "The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time." - Bertrand Russell. Truer words could not have been spoken.

If you like browsing the internet for hours upon end, then you obviously enjoy doing it. Society may deem this to be wasting your precious time, but society is not you.  This time is time well spent.

So do what you want, and don't let others get you down. Everyone has their own idea of  fun.

Maybe you like to collect bottle-caps, and arrange them in their respected color schemes. People ridicule you and say that it's lame. Smile, grab their Coca-Cola bottle-cap, and pocket it. And do it with pride.

Random Urban Dictionary word:
   newscandy:
Insufficient morsels of news meted out by journalists of TV and radio. Often simply a headline and one paragraph's worth word-count, so that they can pile on as many little anecdotes as possible between traffic reports, witty banter, and advertisements, and repeat them every half hour for the short-attention span crowd.

"Watching CNN Headline News is pretty much just getting newscandy."
