...or have people been getting even more critical lately?
Here is my latest example in a long string of examples recently... the new Joss Whedon show, "Dollhouse".
Now even with some of the more rabid fans of Joss' other work, I keep hearing negative comments, and in most cases, they seem to have watched a single episode, and then gave up on the show. I realize that time runs short more often then not, but isn't that what Hulu is for? So you can catch up when you do have time, and maybe make an informed decision about something?
I spent an afternoon, caught up on the show, and really enjoyed it thoroughly. It took me a little while to really see Joss in the writing and acting, but it does eventually come out. I mean, for fuck's sake, how long did we have to suffer through the first several episodes of Buffy before it really struck us just how good the show was?
It's obvious that he took a lot more input on this show, then it seems like he did for his other works. The show runs through the same patterns as last year's Bionic Woman, except this time with good writers.
Maybe it's just another eastern half of the US thing... but it seems like I have to try harder anymore to find any real fans of anything new lately. The negativity is getting to me. Dollhouse is just another in a string of examples that have caught my attention. I finally felt like commenting.
Daniel Tosh is a comedian who's work I'm quite fond of... he's got a line in one of his shows that says something along the lines of "California's too expensive to live? Good, move east... that's what the middle of the country is for. People who gave up on their dreams." Not a direct quote, but pretty close...
I challenge the people here in Ohio with me to prove him wrong... I am observing what I believe to be a greater amount of negative thoughts on a regular basis, and I firmly believe that the people here are better then this.
