And the great job hunt begins...
I've applied at Target today. That was more of an ordeal than it should have been. So, here's what happened:
Target has got these little "Employment Kiosks" in which you enter your personal data and hiring history etc on a computer prompt, and it gets entered into the system. You can halfway fill out the forms and then leave and come back and the data is still there.
Well, there was no one there when I got there, so I sat down and started. I did everything up until the References. I didn't have the info on me for my personal references, so I had to get off the computer and call someone. Well, I didn't have anything to write the info down with, so I had to BUY a small memo pad and pen, and write it down. When I get back, BOTH Kiosks were in use.
Now, it's a 20 to 60 minute process to fill out the applications, and these people have been there for a little while. I don't want to kick them off, so I have to wait for THEM to finish before I can finish my own application. This means it took TWICE as long for me to apply than it should have.
Anyway, I'm in their computer now. They've said that they'll phone me in a few days to set up an interview, and we'll see if I can get a job. I'll probably end up stacking things (I'm tall enough that it's probably my fate) but any job is preferable to going hungry.
I've also written down a half dozen other stores I've seen with HELP WANTED signs in their windows. I'm going to start systematically checking those out tomorrow.
