I am... studying

It has been a LONG time since I last posted. I am here to rectify this problem.

New classes have filled a lot of my time. Re-organizing things and cleaning my room has taken more still. We brought in a Oppossum about the size of a large housecat alittle while ago, sitting out by the road. He was practically frozen. We warmed him up and gave him some fruit and almond milk. He survived the night just fine, and snuffled around a bit before disappearing.

I've got some new userpics up now, pictures from Babylon 5 and my namesake curtsey of jumpnow.de, and I've been putting my new Laptop through it's paces. It's dual-booted Windows XP/Slackware 11 Linux.

To squeal only a little bit, I'd like to do a dance (Dancing Vorlons would look COOL) about the new XFCE interface that comes with Slackware. I used to avoid XFCE like a plague because of how primitive it looked, how poorly the interface was configured, etc. They seem to have fixed everything while I was using Fluxbox. My one complaint is that it looks a LITTLE bit too much like an APPLE system now, with the panel at the bottom, but that's acceptable.

However, I have much tweaking to do with this system. Since I have not got the APM configured (yet), it does not know how much battery power it has left any given time, so it cannot shut down cleanly if the battery is about to go dead. This is not desireable on a Windows system, and on a Linux system it's disasterous.

Also, I have not finished configuring the Wireless Lan card. I've got the drivers in place, ndiswrapper running et al, I can set the options on the card to my hearts content, and it responds, but I cannot seem to turn on the Wifi Radio to recieve. It's a software switch, but I have not managed to get it working yet. It still needs some work.

I am currently running dir2ogg on my music collection. It is a slow process, converting from one format to another, and on a system with a slow hard drive and only a moderately fast CPU it is very difficult. The system keeps slowing down and stopping, then starting up again then slowing down again while I am typing this. When it is done, the files will take up much less space, but still contain the same data and tags.

I have drastically reorganized my files, my life, my bookshelf, my room, and a few bits and pieces of my psychology. And I'm not yet a thousand years old yet. :D
