So, after some careful, precise, and deliberate consideration, I have altered my decision to take next semester off quite slightly. In fact, I was about 90% sure I was going to do so before today, but now I am about 40% sure ( Read more... )

The CS correlate does require a bit of math. It requires you to take Discrete Math as a prerequisite for either Algorithmics or Language Theory. However: As of next semester, the department is introducing CMPU-295, which will satisfy that prerequisite as a CS-specific course. I don't know how much that will soften the blow of having to do the math (I hated having to take Discrete, and I'm not doing well in Language Theory now), but it's something to think about--I imagine it'd be a lot less painful than having to take a class that feels like nothing but intuition puzzles.

Incidentally, I was in a very similar situation with my Japanese major. My original plan had been to do something like a film and Japanese double major, but I backed out of that because the film department has some absurd requirements that I didn't want to deal with. I calculated that, since I had done the Ochadai program, declaring a Japanese major at the end of my sophomore year would only require me to take two more JAPA courses in addition to 4th year to complete the major--leaving me completely open to do whatever I wanted, including the lion's share of my CS correlate, which I'm only finishing next semester.
