"..."
Wow, what do you know? Dib's face CAN get paler than it usually is. After a moment he screws up the energy to get put a weak smile on it.
"That's... great, Starfire..."

... Whoops. She forgot about a certain someone's feelings considering this journal entry she's made and who she made it available to do read.

With a small grin, she says, "I thank you. You... are okay?" She asks due to how she noticed the paleness of her friend.

"Yeah... I'm okay..." No he wasn't. He wasn't okay. THIS wasn't okay! He had to say something! Anything! "Starfire--"
*PÜF!*
"Wha--" He looked down at himself. Plain ol' big-headed Dib again. "Augh... of all the times, I had to change back NOW?!" His voice breaks at the last word and he looks up at Star again.
"I know. I just met you. And you probably have known that Thunder guy forever. But it's just that... I kinda thought..." He makes a strained noise and raises his hands up to gently hold her shoulders, gold-brown eyes looking into hers. "Look, I like you! A lot! You knew that before, but it hasn't changed. In fact, it's only gotten... worse. Better. I don't know what the right word is! You're just-- you're the most amazing girl I've ever met! The more I learn about you, the more incredible you are! And I know you don't have any feelings for me or anything--after all, I can't even fly-- but, I just had to say this. Just... once."

"I do not think that it is a bad time, and I like how you l-" she wasn't able to finish her sentence because he already went on with his other words and she didn't wish to interrupt him. Especially when he grabbed her shoulders and looked at her like that.

And when he finished? Oh, dear. She had always wondered about how Earth boys operated, especially since she was stranded on that planet with Robin, but she never felt so eager to get her hands on anything to help her better predict things like this. "...I," she began, and she thought for a second or two, trying to find the right words to say in response to this, "I did not realize that the feelings were that, well... strong." She couldn't say "worse" or "better," since he was stuck between the two words.

((*totally didn't go looking for this icon for this comment. Nope.*))

"...Yeah, I... was hoping that if didn't say anything, it'll all just go away and you wouldn't have to worry about it or something... that sounds really stupid now that I actually say it, but it made sense at the time."
((It's so cute! Did she ever say that in the show?))

"I can see why you kept it to yourself," she said, and she was absolutely sincere about that. She gave him a small smile, saying, "You do not need to keep anything from me, though. I like it when we talk about things, for when you bottle them up inside, they become much more of a problem for you than you realize. It is best to speak about them and to get them out."

((Actually, she did! In an episode "Stranded," when Robin got her upset over a misunderstanding, she asked him something along those lines.))

"Yeah. I get that now. But saying all this now isn't going to change anything. Even if--"
Dib became suddenly aware that his hands still rested on her shoulders. He probably should let go. He really should. But, all he wanted to do was wrap his arms around her and kiss her and make her forget all about that other guy. But it was way too late for that.
...Wasn't it?

Starfire blinks, curious about what he was going to say. "Even if you what, to change what, might I ask?" she asks. Of course, Starfire isn't aware of what Dib wanted to do, and she had forgotten that his hands were still on her shoulders. Count on Starfire to be easily distracted at a time like this.

"Well, I'm just a normal human. I don't have super strength or cybernetic implants, I can't use magic or throw bolts of pure energy... And you've found someone that probably does, so of course you're going to choose him and--"
He looks up into her eyes again, their faces close. The vivid, glowing green pools looking back at him causes his explanation to trail off and he just stares...
"...and I... I shouldn't get in the way... I... Oh, forget it!" Dib lifts to his toes and gently takes Star's lips with his own!

Whoa. Uh. Whoa. Ohsnap.

Starfire freezes, tensing up. This isn't happening this isn't happening this isn't happening... why didn't she see this coming?! Why did boys have to be so confusing?! ...And why did she feel her face go warm?

This wasn't right; she just came back from a date with someone she liked for awhile, and this, an open show of affection that is common on planet Earth, is happening with someone else.

There's a breathless moment where neither of them seem to move, then his lips reluctantly separate from hers, stealing another soft brush as they do so. His eyes open--he had closed them apparently sometime during the kiss--and he sees the look on Star's face, he lowers himself down to his feet, wide-eyed, hands still on her shoulders. Was she... blushing?
"...Starfire?" His voice is low and quiet.

When Starfire finally opens her mouth, she can't seem to form coherent sentences at first. So you can hear words like "I, uh, Dib, er," and she seems to stumble over these words until she can get her thoughts together. Still red in the face, she takes a hold of his hands and carefully takes them off of her shoulders, saying, "Perhaps we should have... a talk, before anything else happens."

"...Yeah?" If he has any idea where this is going, he certainly doesn't show it.

Starfire takes a deep breath, and still holds onto her friend's hands even after she has taken them off of her shoulders. She lets it out, and gathers up the things she wants to say inside of her head. Okay. They're straightened up. Now go.

"Dib. I... am flattered, by how you feel. And I will always appreciate that you feel so strongly about me. But it would not be fair to you or me if I would let some things happen when I cannot share the same feelings in return," she says. She gulps, and continues, "And I feel that way about another, and I do not think that it will change any time soon."

Of course, this moment was going to give Starfire a lot to think about and to consider, but considering how she felt right there and then, he had to know those feelings. He had a right to know.

Dib seems to stare at her for an extra second, then he blinks and his eyes drop to their hands.
"Okay..."
He doesn't seem as neurotic now, that's for certain. Perhaps it's because he knows for certain, now, where he stands. After a long moment, his eyes move back up to hers. There was something about those eyes that were always focused, no matter how scrambled the inner workings of his brain were.
"Well... at least I can still be your friend, right?" That sentance is so common among Earth couples that the message hidden in the consolation automatically comes through: The reaffirmation that no, he wasn't going to disappear forever just because of this. He cared about her so damn much that he would stay with her, even as a friend.

Starfire lets out a small smile, and lets go of his hands only so that she can wrap her arms around him for a hug. It wasn't one of her bone-crunching hugs, but just a normal, non-harmful hug. "Of course we can still be friends. I do not wish for our friendship to change or end in any way," she says. She's relieved, really. She didn't want the Rekmas to come and cause her and Dib to drift away.

And she thought about his other words, and frowns, letting go to look at him again. "But you must understand something," she says. "Please, do not think so low of yourself. I did not choose the other because of any abilities that they have or because I was impressed by them. You are not less to me because you cannot fly or because you cannot shoot things out of your hands." And she really did want Dib to know that. She didn't want him to think anything he lacked was the reason she didn't return said-feelings.
