It was your typical day in the Titans Tower. It was Starfire's turn to do everyone's laundry. For the most part, that was going just fine. Beast Boy's underpants were quite a handful, but Starfire got through that crisis. After returning Raven's clothes, she went to take care of Terra's and her own ( Read more... )

"A fire?" Oh, Terra heard. And as soon as she could, she filled up the closest thing to a bucket that she could find with water and rushed to the laundry room. Unfortunately, the bucket-analogue happened to be an empty milk gallon jug from the trash that hadn't been taken out yet.

But, uh, oops. "I never had to deal with an electrical fire before!" she lamented as she brought the jug into the laundry room with her one good hand, the other still in a cast from when she'd injured it back during that ca-ray-zee camping adventure.

She immediately shook her head at the sight of the jug in Terra's hand. Starfire knew one thing: water + electrical fires = A BIGGER CRISIS!

"I am thinking that we need the soda of baking or an extingulisher of fires to take care of this!" Starfire said, and she looked around some more for anything that could help.

"Oh, uh, well," Terra stammered, setting down the jug and immediately starting to look around for something effective. "There's, uh, there's detergent here. That sort of looks like baking soda. You think the fire will be able to tell?" ...Yes, she actually just asked that.

Starfire's brain just came to a complete halt at that question. Not because she finds Terra's question to be ridiculous, but because Starfire genuinely has no idea if there was a difference. "I... I am not sure." D8

"Well, we've got to try it, because I don't see anything else around here!" And in a frantic display, she grabbed for the box of detergent and poured it out all over the dryer. No, she had no idea if that was going to work. But it was the only idea she had, dammit.

Starfire made an "eep!" noise as Terra poured the detergent over the flames, and took cover, as if dreading an even bigger fire. Fortunately, and for some reason that is beyond our own comprehension in our universe, the detergent actually works. She peeks out of her arms, and asked, "It... it is out?"

Terra looked just as stunned, to be sure, that that harebrained idea had actually worked. "I... I think it is," she said, her voice more than a little surprised. "...But are the clothes okay?"

"I, I am not sure. Beast Boy's and Raven's and Kole's and others are quite all right, for I have already returned them." Gulping, she adds, "But... I am afraid our clothes are in that machine."

"Oh... oh, damn." Did that mean... "Oh man, they're all probably ruined by now." Terra sighed a little. "At least they're not soaking wet, though. But I'm not gonna be the one to open it up and get a faceful of smoke." This was TRUTH for her.

"I do not wish to do that, either." She sighed as well, and glanced down at her feet. "I do not have many clothes left. I am sorry that my foolish mistake also ruined your clothes, Terra."

Realizing what she said might have sounded like, Terra sighed again and walked closer to Starfire, putting an arm around her shoulders and squeezing a little in the best approximation of a hug she could give. "C'mon, Star. It's no big deal. We'll just... y'know, hit the mall later and get new clothes. And until then, maybe I could... I don't know, use some of your clothes just so I don't have to walk around in my laundry day clothes?"

"The mall of shopping is a wonderful place to go to for emergencies," Starfire said with a smile on her face. "I do not mind sharing my clothes with you, either. I have been meaning to clean out my closet, and this seems like the perfect time to start."

"Let's head back to your room, then. Unless you want me to do this in public, and I don't think either of us wants that." She laughed a little. "We'll just leave this here," she said, motioning to the dryer, "and handle the cleanup later. I think we're entitled to a little break now."
