Did check that shipping calculator before you bid?
What are the seller's terms and conditions?
It's possible the eBay-ship-o-matic thing is fuxored.
Have you asked the seller about this yet?
Could be much ado about nothing.

I'm waiting on email back from the seller. I don't even need priority shipping; I'm perfectly happy with regular USPS mail. (after all, I'll live if I don't get my toy immediately!)

For future reference, when you bid on an item it is up to you to find out the shipping cost before you bid. Even if it is not listed in the auction, you have to e-mail and ask. Once you have won the item you have entered into a legally binding contract to pay whatever the seller had listed, or what ever they decide to charge you if they didn't have it listed. You can't just "back out". If you do they will likely file "non-paying bidder" against you and your account will receive a strike. If you get three strikes, you lose your account. It sucks, but that's the way it works.

Then I'll take a strike - I find it equally unethical to gouge someone like that. I'll make use of the feedback response feature to voice my side of the issue.
