Lunar New Year

Jan 23, 2012 16:16

As usual Naha went all out for Lunar New Years. Okinawa's ancient ties to China really show around this time of year. It's also one of the few fesivals I enjoy. It usually coinsides with our Cherry Blossem festival. Eat that Mainlanders. We get our Cherry blossem watching first!

While I would have rather preformed as part of the martial arts group for the festival, I was once again asked to do the traditional dance as I'm one of the few young girls who actally knows it and can fit into the traditional clothing with some minor alterations. They had me sing a traditional song too, in the old tongue. Of course this is all so I dont' have to do it in July. As that's my favorite festival here. I refuse to ever miss the giant tug of war, even if it is to help promote a dying culture to a bunch of tourists.
