I have never bought a thing from AE, but still hold out the possibility that one day there’ll be something there worth buying.
What’s the diff between AE and A&F?
Don’t they pretty much sell the same type of clothing?

A&F = Hottest ad campaigns ever, making you want to buy their clothes so you can be hot too.

AE = White trash clothes that are two sizes bigger than everyone else (ie. their XS is everybody else's M).

Hmmmm...

Then maybe my plans of stopping by A&F sometime next week are a waste and I should just stop by AE. Boo

Basically what rowrster said. A&F is hot, very hot. American Eagle is not. They both sell relaxed, casual type clothing, but American Eagle's line-ups are usually full of really tacky colours and colour combinations. But the clothes is cheap, it looked acceptably acceptable on me (although rowrster probably won't agree when he sees it ^^"), it's sooo a done deal.

The XS was actually smaller than an A&F S, I think ... or, at least, it fit a lot better than an A&F S polo, which looked so awkward on me that Alia (who was shopping with me) burst out laughing. Hmph.
