Hmm... there were some specific things I wanted to write about, but I can't really seem to recall any of them at the moment. Except for this: CD reviews.
However, more then just reviews, there is also a fun story included on how I obtained said CDs. I had some shitty CDs that I had gotten for free (and one that I had actually paid for) and never listened to so I decided it was time to get rid of them. I go to Soundcentral but they won't take them. I can't blame them. But they had Southern Lord's North American release of Boris' lastest album, Pink. I just had to pick it up. I think I reviewed this one already, so nothing to say except two things. First of all, included were a couple of pictures, but they were punched into tiny squares so they could be easily taken apart. I don't know the point of those things. Secondly, an extra eight minutes of weird static-y noise with the faint sounds of guitar underneath was added onto the final track, "Just Abandoned My-Self", giving the album a truly doomy track. Which I appreciate.
Now, I still had these shitty CD's I wanted to get rid off, so I went to CD'ment on the off chance they would relieve me of them. I go in and they only want to give me store credit, which was fine by me. Two of the guys there are fervently talking with each other in the back and I'm thinking that I'm going to get nothing for these CDs (they were, for the record, albums by Dead Soul Tribe, Winter Solstice, and Wednsday 13). They tell me to wait in the store and will let me know what I will get for them once they are done being evaluated. So I wait around for maybe fifteen minutes, growing ever impatient seeing as how I figured I was going to be getting practically nothing for them, if I was lucky. So, finally the guy comes out and tells me they won't take the Wednsday 13 (I still have yet to listen to that album) but will give me $19 for the other two. I was like, exqueeze me? Sold! I wasn't gonna buy anything orginally, since I had already paid full price for the Boris album, but that was a deal I was ready to take full advantage off. So I did, and got myself a brand new copy of Gorgoroth's Twilight of the Idols. It cost me $2.40, and I was quite pleased, considering HMV was selling it for $24.99. I would have been peeved if I had payed just under 30 dollars for just over 30 minutes of music.
That said, Twilight of the Idols is an awesomely vicious and brutal album. The slow songs are pounding and unrelenting, the fast tracks are killer, and the whole thing will carve it's way into your head. While perhaps not as technically proficient as other black metal greats like Enslaved or Immortal, what Gorgoroth lacks in technical proficiency they make up for with shear fucking hatred. This album oozes anger, it's one of the most angry in my collection. You can tell this is a band that truly hates people, as is evidenced by vocalist Ghaal's incarceration for assault and battery (I'm just thankful it wasn't a hate crime, this band is Norwegian after all). From what little other I've heard by this band, I don't think I would be far off in guessing that this is their best work. A very good album.
All that walking around in the rain Friday was more then worth it. And I didn't even get sick as a result.

From afar
Tear my heart out"
