Summary: Doramas sometimes have the "wrong" person with the happy ending.
Author's Note: Written for mujun's International Uber-Emo Angsty Comment Fic Day. Sorry about the Yamapi roles bias. *dies* It's not my fault he never seems to get the girl. XP Also, I guess a little subjective, since I hint at Nakatsu/Mizuki, Takuma/Kozue, Rui/Makino which don't end up being the canon couples. Just saying.

i. Proposal Daisakusen.

Kenzo thought he'd heard his name being yelled out. Was almost pretty sure, but when he didn't see any small female in a wedding dress come rushing his way, he blamed it on the heat. He blamed it on his hopeful heart. He blamed it on his stupid delusions that he might actually get the girl. That his speech had actually affected someone.

But it was all in his mind. He should've known. Kenzo leant against the bumper of the cab that he was being made to push (he shouldn't even have to pay for the damn ride by this point) and closed his eyes.

He strained his ears, trying to see if he could hear Rei's voice again. Yelling "Kenzo." "Kenzo." Kenzo was almost sure he could hear it. It had to be her - that faint voice couldn't have been manifested just by his own brain.

Kenzo opened his eyes against and when all he saw was empty lanes and an even emptier sidewalk, he thought that maybe this was a sign that he should stop being such a dreamer and finally give up and move on from the one female that he'd loved all his life.

Sometimes, wishful hoping didn't always work out. Kenzo turned and started to push the cab again, masking his tears with his sweat.

ii. Hanazakari no Kimitachi E.

Nakatsu wasn't dumb enough to believe that Mizuki had any sort of romantic feelings towards him. He did still have two eyes and anyone with two eyes (and 20/20 vision) could tell just how Mizuki felt for Sano.

But that didn't stop him from dreaming, from hoping that maybe he could have a happy ending. That the first person he'd fallen for could, in turn, fall for her as well. He wasn't sure when he'd gotten so deep into it, but turning around, Nakatsu had really fallen for her.

Weren't they just friends? Wasn't it originally just so delusions? Nakatsu had thought Mizuki was a boy and yet these feelings had persisted. Didn't that make him much more serious about this than Sano who'd know from the beginning that Mizuki was a girl? Had that influenced him?

Nakatsu shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts - this wasn't the right route to go. He wasn't supposed to be rationalizing his feelings for Mizuki, nor was he supposed to give examples for why his love may be stronger than Sano's for Mizuki.

He could hear voices faintly muffled and was thrown out of his reverie. Standing up, Nakatsu held up a glass of wine. "To Mizuki and Sano," he said, his voice clear - no sign of any wavering. "May they have a happy marriage."

This was how things were supposed to be anyway. Nakatsu knew better.

iii. Sore wa Totsuzen, Arashi no You ni.

Takuma hadn't been lying when he'd said that he wanted to be with her forever. It was true then; it was still true now. Takuma could never forget Kozue for as long as he lived - she'd saved him all those years ago. He'd valued her opinion, her words. Just her presence around him made him want to be with her more and more.

He'd melted in her gaze, trying so hard to keep strong and be worthy of her. She was older than he was - a lot more than he'd expected, but age never mattered. Takuma was always considered mature for his age, and if he could be with her, he'd do anything. Everything. Whatever was possible.

But she'd turned him away. Refused him. And he hated that he understood why she'd done it. Understood just what she was thinking and Takuma let her go. He let her go and gave his heart to her as he did so.

He was alone in the dance room and played the same song he'd done the day he'd danced with her that first time. The moves came to him without flaw and he held his arms up into position, imagining her in his arms, dancing along with him.

Takuma could almost, just almost remember just how it'd felt. He could imagine the heat from her body against his. The steady beat of her heartbeat. The grip of her fingers around his waist. And the awe in her face when she danced.

He could remember a lot of things, but when the song came to a close and all he could hear was the sound of his own harsh breathing, everything came to an abrupt end.

Takuma could imagine a lot of things, but nothing beat the real thing. And Takuma knew for a fact that Kozue would never step through that door ever again.

iv. Hana Yori Dango (1 and 2).

Rui wasn't sure why he still allowed himself to interact with her - why he seeked out her company, her opinion, her being - when all it did was lead him to yearn for her more and more. Granted, Makino called him out just as much as he did, finding him to be her confidant. The one person that'd understand her relationship with Tsukasa.

But that didn't stop him from wanting her to be with him and not his best friend. It stung though, just thinking those thoughts. Like Rui was betraying people by continuing this sham of a friendship. But it wasn't a sham.

Rui genuinely considered Makino as one of his closest friends. He just wanted more. And just that thought scared him. He wasn't used to wanting someone as badly as he did. Even the feelings he'd had for Shizuka, he'd been able to push that to the background, not ignoring them, but more like taming them.

Shizuka was of a different beast than Makino - Rui had loved the affection Shizuka had given him, attention that he hadn't had before. With Makino, it was... different. It was companionship, comfortability. It was his desire to be around her whenever and wherever, and screw anyone's thoughts on the matter.

But... "Tsukasa and I got into another fight," Makino groaned as she took a bite of her parfait. "He's so stubborn! Never listens to a word I say!"

Rui smiled gently, and leant against his arm. "It'll be okay. He'll come around. You know how Tsukasa can be." This was really how it was meant to be - Rui'd never stop being the friend.

v. Kurosagi.

Kurosaki didn't think Tsurara understood as much as she seemed to think she did. After all, she was naive to the world, dense, completely stuck in her way. She didn't listen and Kurosaki could see that. She had to learn things in her own way, in her own time, before any opinion could become changed.

And Kurosaki couldn't stand that. She'd push and she'd pull. But he wouldn't open. Couldn't open. Kurosaki thought that he was pretty much a lost cause - emotions were only a hassle, all of them except maybe vengeance and anger and bitterness. All the negative ones were the ones he kept with him because it was just a reminder that the world wasn't kind.

He fought against the waves that Tsurara brought, the emotions that she was trying to pull out of him again. Emotions he couldn't afford - not in the line of work he did. So he pushed and pulled her back. Told her what he thought. Told her to leave. Told her "good bye."

Tsurara just couldn't seem to leave well enough alone.

But Kurosaki was smarter than she was. Knew more about the world and its ways, and he knew that with her wanting to be a public prosecuter and his swindling. Things would never work out.

So Kurosaki locked his door, shut the light and pretended not to hear her banging at it - wanting to see him, to help him. Kurosaki could feel his heart breaking, but he let it. Because emotions were nasty and he couldn't afford to even have one.
