Pairing: Koyato
Summary: Shige has love down.

There’s an art to admitting one’s love for their best friend, Shige has decided. He’s seen the movies, read the books, watched the plays, and he’s pretty sure that he completely understands how one should go about getting together with his best friend. Being the practical minded person that he is, he’s not only absorbed each method, he’s broken down the friendship to love transition into excruciating detail.

There are thousands upon thousands of ways that Shige has seen the relationship played out―some of them are straight forward, such as confessing one’s love while enjoying children playing in the park. Or just leaning together after dinner one night and quietly holding hands. There are other, more subtle methods, such as seducing said best friend with hot clothes and perhaps making said best friend jealous with a pretend boyfriend. Then there are methods so subtle that only love masters can pull them off. Shige prefers his method best; the do-absolutely-nothing-and-pretend-there-are-no-feelings methods. Because Shige is a love ninja. Or a complete loser. One of the two.

Thursday nights are date nights for Koyama and Shige. They’re not actual dates, Shige sadly thinks, but they’ve become this kind of tradition. The two boys go out for dinner or catch a movie and then go back to Koyama’s apartment where Shige strategically stays as far away from Nyanta as possible. Shige loves the date nights because not only does he get to spend time de-stressing from school and talking about that annoying girl in his Western European Studies class or hearing Koyama talk a mile a minute about the latest changes to Tegoshi’s wardrobe, but occasionally Shige can pretend they're on a real date and that they’ll hold hands when they get to the car and Koyama will kiss Shige goodnight when Shige goes home.

This Thursday, they’re watching a movie at Shige’s apartment and Shige is playing his usual ‘if I were to confess my love right now, how would I do it?’ game. If he was going for subtle, he might stretch his arm across the couch and the drowsy Koyama while pretending to yawn and then strategically place it around Koyama’s shoulder. Or perhaps even subtler, Shige could pretend to fall asleep and curl into Koyama’s side and then Koyama would wrap protectively around Shige and assuming Shige was asleep, whisper his love confession into Shige’s ear. If Shige wanted the bold approach, he could throw Koyama a ‘come hither’ glance and seductively lick his lips before gesturing to the bedroom.

His favorite idea of the moment seems to be taken from the movie they’re watching. He could get Koyama really drunk, have unprotected sex and here was where the plan turned beautiful. After ignoring Koyama and bursting into tears in Koyama’s presence for a month or so, finally inform Koyama that he was carrying Koyama’s love child and at which point they would have a passionate reunion. Keeping that in mind, Shige yawns before deciding to stay completely still.

Koyama tears his gaze away from the television to glance at Shige. “Are you tired already?” He asks. “It’s only 9.” Shige thinks about kissing Koyama right here and now, just hesitantly leaning up and pressing their lips together. He shakes his head to clear the image.

“No no. I’m not tired. It’s just this couch is so comfortable.” He settles into the couch firmly to prove his point. Koyama just laughs a little before bouncing up and down and affirming the couch’s true comfortability level. For no reason at all, the couch reminds Koyama of how he wants to go to Alaska (why? Shige wonders. Alaska? Really?) and Koyama starts talking about Alaska and their upcoming photoshoot and how the character in the movie seems like she might’ve been born in America. Shige thinks about how he could straddle Koyama right there―push him down into the couch and pin his arms to the arms of the couch. Or maybe he could announce that he’s leaving for Alaska tomorrow morning, but before he leaves he’d like to let Koyama know how he’s felt all these years.

Instead Shige pats Koyama’s hand consolingly and promises him that they’ll go to Alaska one day, just like they’ll go to Antarctica and New Zealand and probably Timbuktu.

“I’m not to sure about the girl though in the film. Her American accent isn't so great.”

“No no, I think in the movie she’s supposed to be from America.” Koyama corrects, which leads to a whole new conversation about pulling off different accents. And even though Shige wonders what Koyama would do if he got down on one knee and proposed in kansai-ben, Shige mostly enjoys the moment of being with his best friend and watching a movie.
