This weekend has brought several firm reminders that summer is over.
First of all, Saturday afternoon a friend and I had plans to do a 100k bike ride with a stop for soup at a restaurant at the halfway point. We got to the restaurant and while we were eating, it started pouring rain. By the time we left the rain had moved on, but had successfully chilled the air considerably. We were freezing for the next twenty minutes, and though it warmed up, we were biking directly towards the cold rain and wind again. Around 75k, my friend called her boyfriend to come and rescue us. So much for completing a century ride. Another time, I guess.
Secondly, today was the first day of football season. This means that Ryan is often flipping between games and commentary, and checking his fantasy stats. Of course this is totally fine, but I often find myself slipping into serious blahness and every time I start to do something, I end up just walking back to the couch and vegging over and over again.
Closely related to the blahness is the familiar feeling that I always should be doing something more productive. I think today I realized that the reason I didn't feel that in the summer was because when I wasn't working, I was doing something fun that completely took my mind off of work and all responsibilities...good or bad.
Silly Canada. Why does all the fun stop the moment September hits? Suddenly everyone is back into the full swing of work and busyness. And me too. I think I have to really figure out a way to maximize my weekend time even when the forces of man and nature are against me! Okay, I'll stop being a drama queen now and get to bed. :)
