Back and happy

I'm back from the Olympic Triathlon. It was AWESOME, apart from that part where I almost barfed after a sprint to the finish.

So more details later, but I think for now my task will be to learn more about race nutrition. Yikes!

1. I haven't read any books myself, but there is tons of information on the Internet. I would recommend http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/. I have found some things they write useful. She could also buy an issue of Triathlete Magazine, which is mostly a bunch of stuff about Pro triathletes that you don't know, but there is a considerable section on training and racing as well.

2. Ideally, you can swim, bike, and run in a tri top and bike shorts. There is no changing necessary at all. But this is the most expensive option, so you can also swim in a swimsuit and shorts and throw a shirt on after the swim, or put on both a shirt and shorts in the first transition. (It does suck to get spandex bike shorts onto a wet body though, FYI.)

For this most recent triathlon I had a tri top with a bra built in, but in the past I would pin my race number to my shirt so that it was ready. She can also buy a race belt that holds the number and just clip it on before getting onto the bike.

The only thing about doing the whole race in a swimsuit is that some girls need more support. I don't fall into that category, :( but if your coworker does, she can always wear a sports bra under her suit which is fairly common.

3. Run with bike shorts, but make sure they aren't the huge, bulky kind. It's not as bad as it sounds.

You can give her my e-mail if she has any other questions. I love talking about triathlons and Ryan gets bored of it quick.
