I'll be happy to finish my half-Ironman bike in four hours. In fact, at this point I'm hoping that I can swim fast enough to give me the extra time I need just so that they don't disqualify me for going too slow on the bike course. Holy cow. Today's ride took just under four hours and we didn't even start at the beginning of the course.
So here's my dilemma:
The race starts at 8:00 am. The swim cut off time is at 9:15. This I am not worried about because I am expecting to swim the course in about 45 minutes, give or take...probably give.
But here's where my problem sets in. The cut off time for the bike course is 1:00 pm. If I make it onto the course by 8:50, let's say, then that only gives me ten extra minutes to ride that extra 6km or so. This is totally doable, but it seems to be cutting it far closer than I would like. Now granted, I probably won't be stopping to say...stop and let a friend catch up, or call Ryan to make sure I am still on the right highway or anything, but still. Too close...too close for comfort.
Now assuming that I do make the bike cut off, I will have four hours to complete the run. Since I'm hoping to do it in 2:15 or so, I think I'll be okay there.
So there you have it. I don't like to think that I will be so close to the DNF (did not finish) people, but I guess I'll just have wait and see. I think I can do it.
