Weekly Asian Post, Vol. 91
Hello everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving! I thank you for tuning in to this Thanksgiving Week edition of the WAP. I hope all of your breaks are, well, restful. That's what a break is for, eh?
So today's holiday is one that invites us to think, specifically, of all of the things we are all thankful for. I've heard sentiment that the idea of Thanksgiving can be problematic, because we choose to celebrate all of those things we are thankful for on this one day, rather than doing it every day of our lives. To those with that opinion, I ask that you please be realistic. I don't even have time to think about what I'm eating for dinner each day, much less able to be thankful for all of the blessings in my life. Just because I might only consider these blessings for one day in the year doesn't mean that I am not thankful for the presence of all of those things in each and every day of my life. So let's forget about what we do for the rest of the year and live in the here and now. Give thanks to everything you have today, and don't fret if you can't give thanks on every other day of the year.
Simply put, it would take me too long to list each specific thing I am thankful for. I would like to take this moment to at least give thanks to those general things in life:
- My family, for being there at all times, and for being a constant presence in shaping my future. Who knows what I would be doing with my life now if it weren't for my mom, dad, and sister. I love you.
- My new friends, as the amount of unhappiness that school work gives me is alleviated by all of you. Last year, I had the worst school year of my life because I felt so alone. This year, I know I have people around me, and life is much more comfortable and livable. I am especially thankful for my housemates. You all are new friends, as I only really knew Josh coming in, but now, I wouldn't trade living in that house for anything else.
- My old friends: I apologize for not having kept in touch very well this year. In terms of making new friends and adjusting to a new environment, I'm pretty much a freshman right now. It's a lot to take in. I want you all to know, though, that I am always thankful that you are in my life. I can't even describe how much of my personality has been formed because of you guys. I'd like to think that people see me as a good person because of how you all have impacted my life.
And overall, I am thankful for the life I have. I am blessed to be intelligent, and as it stands, I need to stop wasting my intelligence with my laziness. I don't think there's any such thing as a single turning moment, but I hope that continued spurts of motivation will eventually help me to change my life and change myself. I am blessed to be kind and personable, as I am making new friends and living a very happy life because of it.
Once again, Happy Thanksgiving to all!
