Summary: Ever since a few months ago, ever since that happened, Yabu has stopped coming to work, at least everyone says so. Inoo doesn't believe what the others might say, and he doesn't remember what happened; he sees Yabu everywhere. As the days pass, a confused Inoo desperately tries to find out the truth behind the rumors. The sleuthing begins and Inoo slowly finds out a horrible secret that his mind has been hiding from him all along.

Inoo felt his shoulders held by two pairs of strong hands. They supported his weight easily as the hands directed him into the backroom of the conference hall. They lead him over to a nearby couch and gently set him down. Inoo was mere clay within their hands, willing and malleable. His face was unemotional and unreadable.
For who knows how long, Inoo sat in the room alone with the two bodyguards, dazing off and unaware of his surroundings. His eyes focused on one spot at no particular object; everything else seemed to just fade and blend in with the hum of the air conditioner. He didn’t hear the door open, nor did he see the manager and Johnny enter the room, but he faintly heard the door click shut behind them. He slowly lifted his eyes from “the spot” and the world gradually came into focus. His mind became aware of everything around him, his senses alert. Despite the gears working in his head, his visage showed no sign of emotional change.
Johnny’s face showed every bit of fatigue the last few hours brought him, and the manager looked solemnly at Inoo, “We’re sorry Inoo. I’m sorry. We just had to stop it. We don’t know… we didn’t know…"
"It’s fine. You were just doing your job.” Inoo said in an oddly even voice.
Both the manager and Johnny faltered, unsure of the child’s true feelings. Uncertain of how to respond, they remain quiet.
“It was hectic in there wasn’t it?” Inoo laughed, but his poker face returned within seconds, “I actually thought it was going to last longer. Ironic after all that talking earlier upstairs, press conference lasted less than half an hour.”
The manager silently nodded, and Johnny quietly motioned one of the guards to him. A few second later, the directed guard leaves, closing the door softly behind him.
"We’re going to send you home. I’m sorry your first few hours here in the Jimusho… were not as you expected. A guard has just informed the front desk to hail an available driver to escort you home. It would be best to get you out of here before the media attempts to follow the car back home. As a precaution though, I am instructing a couple of guards to accompany you to the car.” With a nod of his head, the two guards already inside the room mutely walked over to Inoo, following Johnny’s soundless order.
With a nod of acknowledgement, the two muscle men gently grasp Inoo’s shoulders. Both were careful not to bruise him, and both became hesitant when Inoo’s body did not tense up. Instead, Inoo’s body moved with the hands and he stood up at once when the guards gently pulled him up. The boy looked like he was just slapped and thrown on the floor, but his eyes did not reveal any signs of bitter feelings. They were just blank.
Disoriented, Inoo willingly agrees to his sudden departure from the Jimusho without a fuss. His head was down, but once he reaches the door, it snaps up. Inoo sharply turns around and he looked at them, locking his gaze at their faces. His eyes were cloudy, expressionless like the rest of his body. The two power figures could do nothing but look back at him.
“Where is Yabu.” It sounded more like a statement rather then a question. His voice was hard but it became softer, “He’s still at home, isn’t he.” It wasn’t a question either; he already knew the answer to that, but he wanted it acknowledged from the founder himself.
Johnny nodded. The manager looked away. Inoo turned his head away and let the two bodyguards guide him to the awaiting car in the back entrance of the building.

Minutes later, Inoo found himself standing in front of a silvery white car; he assumed it was the “awaiting car” Johnny requested. It appeared to be same car that drove him back home from the hospital, but then again, there are other cars that look the same. The two guards still grasping his shoulders loosened their hold and gently eased Inoo into the car. At first Inoo insisted that he could get in himself, but his temporary protectors were persistent so Inoo let them do what they were told. Once inside the car, one of the men shut the door behind Inoo and the other tapped the back of the car twice, signaling the driver to go.
From the front seat, the driver looked at the rear view mirror and saw Inoo. His eyes narrowed at the mere sight of the younger. Inoo felt the glare and he lifted his eyes, leveling it with the driver’s; he recognized them immediately.
Inoo involuntarily shivered. Ironically, it was the same driver that picked him up at the hospital.
So we meet again.” The cold voice sounded loud in Inoo’s ears.
“It seems so,” was all Inoo could muster up. He couldn’t quite understand why the driver was so harsh with him, but something told him not to ask. Instead he looked out the tinted window and avoided the bitter eyes.
Outside, traffic prolonged Inoo’s trip home. He only lived a 20-minute run away from the Jimusho. Taking a car in this traffic, he’s going to be in this car for a while. He would have been faster afoot.
In the silence, the driver would occasionally look at the back mirror to check on the boy, eyes narrowing everytime. Finally, Inoo gathered up the courage to speak to the only other human being in the car, the intimidating driver.
“I haven’t seen you in months sir. How have you been?” He wanted to start out nice.
The older man flashed his eyes quickly to the rearview mirror. He ignored Inoo, treating the younger male as if he didn’t exist.
‘I don’t need this. Not now.’ Inoo finally snapped. He’s had enough. “You can ignore me all you want, but the fact that I’m still in this car with you doesn’t change. Do you think that pretending that I’m not here will hide me from your sight? I can tell you, as much as you want it to, it won’t make me disappear.”
The driver seemed unperturbed.
“I don’t even know what I did to you…” Inoo became somber, “Ever since the last time I saw you… all you keep giving me are countless cold stares and short bitter sentences. You won’t talk to me… You won’t even acknowledge me, and if you do, you speak to me as if I was the last person you wanted to see. I can tell you don’t like me, to what extent I’m not sure. Tell me though; what did I ever do to you? Answer that at least because I deserve that much.”
The older man did not say anything. With that unsatisfying answer, Inoo audibly sighed and looked at the moving cars that slowly passed by the window.“
He protected you and you haven’t visited him yet, have you?” Inoo did a double take at the driver. Inoo didn’t quite understand what the other meant. He saw the driver look at his rear view mirror and gave Inoo his attention. Inoo tilted his head with a questioning glance while looking back at the driver.
“Sir? I wasn’t allowed to see him, and I still can’t. What do you mean, uhh…” Inoo dragged, not knowing his last name.
“Tamagotchi.”
“As in Tamagotchi, the portable game?”
The man laughed, for once without any coldness in the strong voice. “That’s another way to put it.”
Inoo smiled at the sudden warm exchange. Tamagotchi’s eyes became reminiscent.
“You know that’s all he ever talked about: protecting you. Inoo, was it?"
Inoo nodded. “Yabu? I knew that you two were friends, Mr. Tamagotchi; were you two close?”
It was Tamagotchi’s turn to nod. “That was all he ever talked about extensively. Well you and I have known him for the same amount of time, although maybe I knew him a little bit longer. Weren’t you closer to him than I was? He’s told me a lot about what’s been going on. He’s said plenty about you, and your… connection with him.”
Inoo’s eyes widened and he looked away, hiding his creeping blush and a secret smile. A soft “He did?” escaped his lips.
Tamagotchi laughed at Inoo’s reaction. He was slowly pulling up in front of Inoo’s house, “We’re here. It’s like I don’t like you Inoo… he also told me-”
Inoo cut him off form telling him something. “I’m sorry, but I have to go. I hope we can be better friends in the future. Thank you, Mr. Tamagotchi, for driving me home and take care.”
Mr. Tamagotchi smiled and nodded back. “It’s my job, Inoo. I’m sure we’ll see each other in the future. Inoo,” he began cautiously, “Do you want to know what Yabu told me?”
Inoo paused, thinking for a bit. Mr. Tamagotchi turned to look at Inoo. Inoo shook his head, “No sir. Maybe next time we meet. If anything, I’d want to hear it from Yabu himself, when I see him, if I ever see him.”
Mr. Tamagotchi nodded, accepting the young boy’s decision, “Oh, one more thing.”
Inoo’s movement to the door stopped once again. In a gentle and sympathetic voice, Mr. Tamagotchi reminded, “Do take care Inoo. Be alert. Never let your guard down, and most of all, never let someone’s appearance deceive you. Until next time, Inoo.”
Inoo didn’t really comprehend what Mr. Tamagotchi told him with those words, or string his words in that particular order. Inoo didn’t need to say anything to acknowledge Mr. Tamagotchi; he merely gave another nod, got out of the car, and shut the door behind him. Inside the car, Mr. Tamagotchi stayed where he was for a few minutes, watching Inoo as the latter attempted to open up his front door. Finally unlocking it, Inoo turned and waved goodbye to Mr. Tamagotchi. Mr. Tamagotchi waved back. He sighed and sunk into the driver’s seat.
Then speaking to no one in particular, “He told me that if anything happened to him, I was to look after you. I promised that I would protect you when he can’t be there to do it himself. I’m supposed to protect you, Inoo, because Yabu cannot be your guardian any longer.”
Mr. Tamagotchi drove off even before Inoo could shut his front door behind him.

Inoo entered his home and was greeted with barks. His two dogs waited for him at the front door and gave him a warm welcome home. He lovingly returned the greeting to both of them, giving each of them a warm hug. He proceeded to the living room and turned on the T.V.
A recap of the press conference played on the featuring channel.
From what Inoo could recall, the segment was from the more serious part of the interview. A female reporter began to speak; Inoo recognized her immediately. She asked and he answered and the exchange continued. Inoo knew what she was going to say next and he sat there in anticipation. Finally the moment came.
“How do you feel about the continued hiatus of Yabu Kota?” Inoo said it in sync with the young woman. Now the part Inoo wasn’t aware of: the Inoo in the T.V. spoke.
“If he needs more time to rest, the I believe it is a wise decision. Is it not best if he returns fully recovered? That way, he will be able to perform to the best of his ability.”
Mr. Kitagawa looked surprised at Inoo’s answer, so did the female sitting next to him. Even the watching Inoo was surprised at his own answer; he had no idea how in the world he managed to pull together an answer like that, let alone that he wasn’t aware that he even said it. Inoo looked at himself in the T.V. He noticed that even though he managed to string together such an answer, it was evident on his face he was confused, and it betrayed his strong voice. He unhappily slumped over on the couch with his head between his hands, straining his eyes to hold back angry tears.
Seeing enough, Inoo shut off the television and headed up to his room. He tossed the schedule onto his bed, unaware that he even had it with him. He plopped down on the bed, scanned the pink infested stack quickly, and soon after, he fell asleep with the interview still mocking him in his mind.
