Long live Franco-Japanese relations!

Over a whirlwind Paris trip last weekend I realised how Franco-Japanese relations are alive and well in Paris. I saw a good number of Japanese people who own little restaurants or shops in Paris, which makes sense since they share a common sense of exquisite asethetic. Our visit to Cafe Breizh in the 3rd district of Paris was one of my favourite stops on the trip. It was a little creperie serving galettes (buckwheat versions of crepes) and crepes, fresh oysters, and a long list of interesting sounding ciders. The cafe started in Tokyo by a Frenchman, and is now in Brittany and Paris, an offers not just food but cute B&B accomodation as well. The staff is a mix of Japanese and French, and the effect well thought through. Long live Franco-Japanese relations!

The cafe sits in a prime corner in the buzzy Marais district, with bright artwork and woodwork cheering up the inside, giving it a nautical feel.

Oysters were sold out the day i was there, but the charcuterie platter was a worthy substitute. Every piece put out there were very different in texture, and smokiness, and taste. Once it came to the main event - galettes - you can choose from many combinations, all with ingredients like raw milk grueyere and organic smoked bacon, it was hard to pick one. They were tasty, oozy, and the galette had crispy edges that was very appetizing. It goes well with the mild, dry cider. I was just sad I had no stomach left to go for a sweet crepe as well.

More on Paris to come but should you ever be in one of the cities - Cafe Breizh is definitely worth a visit.
