Last night I met a girl who volunteered in New Orleans over spring break, and she shared stories about the people there, the horrible conditions, etc. She mentioned that she is working with a few others to create a Habitat for Humanity at Clark, too. Anyway, she told us a really heartbreaking story told to her by a man in N.O.
He told her about a medical student who worked as a volunteer for an entire summer last year. This student worked extremely hard, stayed longer than planned, and helped so many people. Then at the end of his stay before he went back to school, our President was visiting to have some sort of luncheon or something. The medical student got to sit next to him as a sort of "honor". Of course the media was there and had him pose with a hammer during a photo-shoot to make it look like he was helping out. During the shoot, the photographer noticed Bush's hand was bleeding. Apparently he had a cut. The photographer said, "Mr. President, you're bleeding!" So, our President looked at his hand, said something to the effect of "why yes I am!" and then said, "I know how to fix this." He proceeded to walk over to the medical student volunteer, and wiped the blood off his hand and onto the student's jacket. Everyone was just in awe.
This entry will be public.
And it is true, because the man that told her this story witnessed it.
