Absent-mindedness and penguins

So, I'm driving home from work earlier this evening, when I think to myself that I could use some glass cleaner wipes to keep in the car since my windshield gets dirty at an alarming rate. So I go to turn into the new Super Walmart, and begin thinking that perhaps I took a wrong turn and ended up in Columbus. There was so much traffic going in and ( Read more... )

Yeah, society has rather loose guidelines concerning the "walk-away", and I'd like to see this rectified. Personally, I base the importance of the walk-away on how long I've known, or how well I know, the given individual. In your case, I would have excused myself to go and talk to Manda.

Huntington is 15 miles away, tops. I travel that long just to get to work, and it takes me about 50 minutes. God forbid I'd have to take the Kennedy "Expressway", it would be more like an hour and a half during my shift. Chicago, while not having too terrible a traffic problem, has some of the most crowded bypass and thruways I've ever seen. Go see the movie.

I still don't have anyone to see it with, and it's bad enough going to a local theatre alone, but I've done it when I REALLY wanted to see a movie. There's gotta be SOMEONE I can drag along, maybe I can convince my brother that he REALLY should take Bri to see it.

Yeah the walk-away guidelines really could be much clearer, I've been working on them since having my "cold shoulder trick" pointed out to me. But I did pretty much as you said you would, I just felt it neccessary to complete the current piece of conversation, however that was long enough for Manda to get out of visual range, and I failed to keep an eye on which way she went.

Sounds good.
According to the Marquee's site, it will be continuing to show all weekend. But I have to work all three days that could be considered weekend, so it looks like the 1:45 showing will be the only real option (I really don't trust myself to wake up functional in time for the 11:45). I could do the 3:45 if I can talk my boss into letting me come in at 6 instead of 5, and there are pretty good odds of that. If the afternoon's not good I might be able to talk the boss into letting me out early, but that might cut things a bit close, depending. As far as I can dig up tickets are 5.25 for matinee, perhaps more if a discount is applied to purchasing them online, which is the only place I can find prices, but I don't think so since they charge an additional service fee. To be doubly certain I can give them a call tommorow before work.

Ok, so, if you have no objections, How about we meet in the food court of the mall at about 1 (to allow a bit of breathing room for me running late, or any other delays). If you're willing you drive, as I don't entirely trust my car to make the journey (perhaps overly paranoid). I can pitch in some gas money if it's needed. And I'll make sure to withdraw some nice paper cash from the bank tomorrow so I don't have to worry about forgetting it Saturday. Let me know if there's anything I've failed to take into consideration.

Ok. After many hours of serious thought in this matter (aka several days of nothing else to do), I have gone about establishing walk-away guidelines, which will tone down the level of discomfort these situations often pose, while at the same time minimizing contact with people we'd rather not be speaking to anyway ( ... )
