Yep, so we went to Yale for our mock trial tournament this weekend. the way mock trial works in college is that there are a bunch of regional tournaments. there are 2 tiers (much like in the smash sense) of national tournaments. There's the gold national tournament, which is the more prestigious one, and the silver nationals, which is the less prestigious one. The top two winners of the regional tournaments go directly to gold nationals and the teams in places 3-5 make it to silver nationals. we wanted to win our regional tournament and make it to gold nationals. we got fucked our first round and lost on both judge's ballots even though we legitimately deserved to win (the judges were self-proclaimed noobs). As of now none of our 5 (yeah, we have 5 fucking teams) have made it to the gold nationals. Last year we took second and tenth place at gold nationals. This is embarassing.
The only hope is that we have made it to silver nationals, and the top 3 winners at silver nationals go on to gold nationals. We have some preparing to do (and I might not be on the nationals team) but my goal is to never lose ever again. I know, a high bar, but I can't stand defeat at mock trial, and when i mean i can't stand to lose, I mean that i'm extremely pissed. Again, i realize that mock trial is sort of a stupid activity to get worked up about since it affects no one and has no real positive effects on the world. but i don't like to lose. if anything that makes me want to do mock trial even more to avoid losing, if that makes sense. Sort of an incoherent post, but whatevs, people can deal.
