For HAL, we had to write a poem about the stereotypes another person may find about ourselves. I felt pretty good about my poem, in part because I never knew I was capable of writing poetry. Here's my poem.
Indian Americans
You’re all smart and intelligent, aren’t you?
No, just some of us are.
Don’t all of you like math and science?
Nope, many of us like other things too.
Isn’t it true you all want to be doctors, lawyers, or engineers?
Not at all, some want to be many other things.
You guys can’t play rough sports like basketball because you’re small, correct?
Actually, some of us do play basketball and football.
But most of you play non contact sports, don’t you?
I wouldn’t say that.
Oh come on.
Come on what?
You all do the same things, don’t you?
No, of course not. We’re all different people.
But all of you look the same, don’t you?
Sorry, wrong again. We all have different physical features.
Aren’t all of your names hard to pronounce?
You’re just on a roll.
Beg your pardon?
No, some names are hard to pronounce, others pretty easy.
I still think you’re all the same.
You’re 0 for 9. We’re different.
Tell me what you think.
