Opt and I are going to the show tonight. I had read somewhere that it was sold out, but apparently it wasn’t. I’m sure lots of people hate those two bands, but those people are unhappy with being ignorant shit bag elitists.
I met Lostprophets when they came with Andrew WK & Apex Theory on the MTV2 Handpicked Tour. Me and my friend, Eddie, got to Sunset Station like two hours before the show. We saw Mr. WK sound checking and noticed a couple of skater chumps hanging around the water fountain. Turns out it was Ian and Jamie from LP. We talked to them about touring and the ills of being signed to a major record company. We ended up meeting everyone in the band, except Lee. We had a crap-cam, but it didn’t have a FLASH on it. I took some awesome pics though, and a few with Andrew WK (he commented to me that the pictures wouldn’t come out cause it was too dark). All the bands kicked MAJOR ass, even though the crowd was only halfway decent. The show could’ve been promoted better. Afterwards, we chilled with the bassist from Apex Theory, then FINALLY met Lee at the bar. He’s the guy who wrote the greatest song of 2001...“The Handsome Life of Swing.” I was so tired the next morning -- I had a Habitat for Humanity project at 8am. It was cool though, I learned how to paint houses and talked about all the cool shit LP hooked us up with.
Chevelle is headlining tonight, and I became interested in them after seeing the video for “Mia.” The riff sounded exactly like the one from Snapcase’s “Typecast Modulator.” I bought both records in 8th grade, and was completely satisfied with the product. Lots of time passed, and Chevelle became fairly popular on the radio. The only difference between then and now is that they got a lot heavier, and the music is much more focused. Though I haven’t purchased anything from them since “Point #1”, I think they’d put on an interesting show.
But of course, I’m going to see Lostprophets. They may be over-produced, but the music is definitely straight up, and they deliver the goods. Plus, I’m almost 100% positive that they’ll play “Last Summer.” That song totally reminds me of the time I went to Schlitterbahn (a.k.a. the day I was “banned” from the rifle range). Specifically, it reminds me of getting plowed by artificial waves and waiting forever to ride the Master Blaster. You can refresh yourself with a semi-conscious post from that day --

But yea, I really dig Sunset Station as a concert venue, and partially as a club (when I was younger, they had some dance stuff there hahahahaha). It’s got a good atmosphere, and there should definitely be more shows there.
PS: Even though I’m allergic to almonds (anything in the nut family, except for peanuts and cashews), I’m going to be making marzipan with my homies from De Clubo el Desayuno. They usually specialize in mixed drinks, but seasonal desserts are a good change of pace. I guess EVERYONE is getting into the holidays this year. Posers.
