Quizilla EMERGENCY DEBRIEFING!!!: It’s come to my attention that anyone who uses =D as a smiley, is doing so out of malicious intentions because it looks like a wiener. You should be alerted if anyone you know is using this suggestive smiley. And also of immense importance is the substitution of “HAHA!” by “TEE-HEE!” when I reply to amusing LJ comments. Now please, continue reading the regularly scheduled post.
I found out today that you can make floats with other sodas besides Root Bear. God damn I love Root Bear! Anyhoot, I’m working on a Grape Soda float recipe, I’ll totally post it up when I perfect it.
I finally decided to listen to the radio today, and concluded that I really fucking hate that “Goodies” song. Don’t get me wrong, I love suggestive urban music…but this shit in particular is whack. I know it’s whack because I don’t really give a shit about who sings it, nor do I give a shit about what she has to say. In fact, I fucking hate everything I’ve been hearing on radio, television, and the inter-web lately. There is no more timeless music being produced… there is NO unpretentious quirkiness mixed with angular melodies and Freddie Mercury vocalizations…there is NO straight up aggressive Rock-n-Roll without carrying a stupid uplifting message about positive self esteem…there is NO grit behind the break beat masters trying to relate their observations to the casual listener.
I just heard the A Perfect Circle’s reinterpretation of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Now, being the critical music enthusiast I am, I understand there will be tons of ‘fans’ that hate the song and thinks it’s a piece of shit. They’ll say it sounds like Led Zepplin’s “Kashmir” or is totally geared towards Maynard’s influences, but I’ll tell them they’re full of shit. I’ve never liked John Lennon very much, or his music, but what APC did with the song has given me a context in which to view the song -- I enjoy it and can appreciate where Lennon was coming from a bit better. I needed a context to put the song into, just as Lennon had his own personal take on the song. Personally, my favorite anti-war song is Sleater Kinney’s “Combat Rock”…I might be a dude, but I’m a Riot Grrrl at heart.
Yesterday, a night of The Aristocats and The Muppet Movie was concluded with my inaugural viewing of Kill Bill Vol. 2. I was a little out of my element (if you know what I mean), but I think I understood what was going on pretty good. The thing I love about Quentin Tarantino movies is the magic of the dialogue -- you can almost hear Tarantino over dubbing his voice on the actors, like he could substitute himself for all the characters in the movie. It’s fucking magic. I enjoyed the directing more in this part than I did in Vol. 1. They do carry two different tones, and while the initial installment was fresher, this film segment showcased Tarantino’s ability to make spectacles out of subtleties. I give it 8 Cheese Sticks out of 10.
Movies I need to watch or re-watch: The Barbarians (re-watch), Think BIG, Dudes (re-watch), Six String Samurai, Brazil (re-watch), and Assault on Precinct 13 . I can’t fucking find them anywhere, so if you want to be cool -- PLEASE HELP ME FIND THEM! And I don’t like using Ebay for DVDs since I got fucked over with a Region 3 DVD of Missing in Action 2. The subtitles were from Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure. Totally killed the mood.
Pee Wee Herman subtitles are awesome though. Just not when your watching Chuck Norris break out of a Vietnamese prison camp.
