So a guy and his girlfriend decided to steal an SUV from an old barn. The man who owned the property saw someone's arm hanging out the passenger window and "believed that person might be holding a gun" - why exactly that is, we are never told, probably because it's either not true, or the owner was coached by police to keep the man out of jail. I can hear the interview now:
"Did you see anything in the person's hand?"
"No... I couldn't see very well."
"Was it possible that there was something in her hand?"
"I suppose it was possible..."
"So you thought it was possible that she might have a gun?"
"Yes, I guess she might have for all I knew."
Neither person had a gun or anything resembling it. The SUV starts to drive away, and the owner yells "Stop" (supposedly), and when the people who are stealing the vehicle fail to stop, he opens up with 6-8 rounds of 9mm gunfire into the front windshield, shooting the girl in the head.
Not only do the police say that the shooting of the girl is justified by Florida's "no retreat" law, but that her boyfriend, who fled the scene not knowing she was dead, is going to be charged with murder.
1) Your fucking SUV is not worth a human life. Seriously, follow it or call the cops to follow it.
2) If the SUV is going to be passing you, shoot a tire out.
3) You can't call the girl's death justified and then charge someone else for it. The murder was legal or it wasn't.
No retreat should not mean unnecessary death.
