Check on YouTube to give a listen to "Night on Bald Mountain." It's a classical piece. They used it for parts of Fantasia, and some are quite good. (though I don't know if classical music is what you're looking for not)
Another classical option could be sections from "Songe D'une Nuit Du Sabbat." (by Berlioz) Also ominous/tense, but maybe less well known than Night on Bald Mountain.
I wish you said how many seconds of music needed you're looking for....
Might also help to think of movie scenes similar to what's happening in the film (or with a similar tension), and look them up on YouTube; they might have the scene w/ the music & you could go from there to find the desired movie soundtrack...
Last night I sat up late trying to figure out what I'm going to use, and some of the music I sampled were all the songs from Godspeed's Lift Your Skinny Fists album, which is the only one I have.

explosions in the sky
set fire to flames (the sings reign rebuilder album is good)
are all rather ominous instrumental bands...no lyrics, but occassionaly on the album their will be a monolouge
i'm sure i could think of a lot more if those are too intense
