August update III

Let's wrap up the baby shower talk in this post. This is the continuation from August update II. With photos!

OK, I rarely get the chance to do this, so lemme toot my own horn. I went with a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star theme, with mint green and gold as the main colours. I wanted something elegant and classy, nothing too bright or garish, no primary colours. Overall I'm happy with how it turned out though I think I could have amped it up more, given it a bit more kaboom, you know? It may be a bit TOO subdued for a baby shower. But I was held back by my pathological refusal to spend lots of money on decorations that'll end up in the garbage bin.

Anyway, without further ado: Ta-da!

I used baby books as decorations. Those BabyLit versions of Pride and Prejudice and Anna Karenina are my FAVOURITES.

The food included some Filipino favourites, like palabok and lumpiang shanghai from Pinpin. Plus, sweets from the bakery (naturally!)

From Edible Flours: A lemon raspberry cake with a lemon curd and raspberry filling. I tried making the lemon curd myself the day before, using coconut cream and a ton of lemons, but it didn't work out. It was too stiff. Phil and Jamila ended up having to whip up a batch of lemon curd on the day of, which is why it's a little bit gooey because it didn't have time to set. The taste was amazing, though. I think lemon curd in cake might be one of my favourite things in the world.

We also got adorable mini-raspberries in raspberry and earl grey lavender, plus mini-cinnamon rolls. All so delicious! Rounding out the treats, I also ordered a chocolate cherry cake from Le Gateau. The frosting is made of coconut cream and melted chocolate. Also so yum!

The lemon raspberry cake, close up. Plus, Catherine and her baby bump.

Those star garlands are made with loooove. I bought the glitter paper and one-hole punch from Michael's - not very much $, but a little bit of a time investment. I also liked doing the little notes for the advice cards. I made them on Canva and got Staples to print them out. And finally, the piece de resistance: Check out that diaper cake, courtesy of Susanne!

I should add: I couldn't have done this without the help of friends, my darling husband and, of course, Pinterest. Susanne acted as my sounding board and picked up the food from Pinpin and the balloons from Party Bazaar. Filo went to Bose to get a speaker for the party (though we ended up not using it) and hung garlands fro the ceiling. Phil came and delivered the treats from the bakery. Catherine's friends Leanna and Camila hosted the games. And Susanne, Filo and Martina took charge of clean up and tidying up after. Organizing parties is never a one-woman job.

Now, excuse me as I go delete the "baby shower" folder in my Pinterest account.
