We now have quite a
good stock of characters, so I'm looking for the right kinds of characters to supplement that with our latest wave of recruitment. Here are some suggestions.
Government
BYZANTINE AMBASSADOR: Ideally female, since we have two male ambassadors. This character will need to be an experienced diplomat.
ATTACHES TO AMBASSADORS: lots of room for ambitious diplomats, as well as administrators etc.
PRESIDENT: this is mostly an honorary position; the High and Common Councils make the decisions. Your character might or might not want to make this role into something more.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL: Ministers for Trade, Education, Health and Public Works, Justice. Also regular members of the Council.
Kostantiniyye has a politically complex situation and there are lots of opportunities for scheming, backstabbing, cooperating and generally having fun with politics. I'm particularly looking to boost the political make up of the city at the moment.
Law and Justice
CAPTAIN/OFFICERS OF THE CITY GUARD: note - the Guard is made up of golem, though their captain and officers will be human... The Guard are officially in charge of defence of the city; they also act as a kind of police force.
PRISONS AND PROBATIONS: someone needs to work in these industries. Kostantiniyye, by the way, also uses indentured labour as punishment, since this is seen as more valuable than long-term imprisonment - most of the most unpleasant civic jobs (sewage maintenance, street cleaning etc) are performed by indentured workers. Maybe you're lucky enough to manage one of these teams, if you've got business smarts and embrace the ethos of the chain gang.
Religion
Tons of room for religious folk of all kinds here, though your gameplay opportunities as a parish priest would be greater than a monk in a closed monastery, for instance...
Industry and Infrastructure
Looking for moguls in the fast-growing industrial sphere. Maritime industries, munitions, mechanical industries... Lots of scope here for major investors and developers. Also for people working within these industries on a lower level. We have an airport for dirigibles, a railway station, there are bridges and roads that need maintenance, major shipyards... And each of the three Powers has a naval presence.
University
RECTOR: Under the Turkish system, this is the head of the university. A role for a senior academic who has administrative skills and political acumen.
SENIOR ACADEMICS working in areas of research that are likely to receive major funding from different Powers, potentially causing drama and conflicts of interest. For instance, there is lots of money going into projects on golem creation through non-traditional methods (controversial!), naval, air and military technologies.
Media
The newspapers in the city are:
Mu'min: a conservative Islamic newspaper (language: Arabic)
Ta Nea: a Greek language paper, moderate
Zaman: a Turkish language paper, moderate-to-liberal
Kostantiniyye Times: an English language paper, moderate-to-conservative
Employees for all papers welcome, as are owners.
Trade and other forms of employment
Always opportunities for merchants, shopkeepers etc. Try to think of trades that would give you opportunities to mix with a wide range of characters! :) The city is bound to need teachers, doctors... And what about the entertainment industry?
Other:
We're always happy to make connections with existing characters - take a look at our
character list and see if you have a character suggestion for colleagues, employees etc. Current particular requests from our players are:
- Attache and secretary for the British Ambassador
- Prospective fiance(e) for the British Ambassador and his fiancee Alicia - ideally British or of British descent, good family
- Employees on the dirigible de Adeelar
- Wife for Elishabet - mid-late 20s, Jewish
- Siblings of Alicia - she has two goldsmith brothers (marital status not indicated), a younger brother who's a Catholic priest, and a married sister who's a draper.
General note:
This list is not proscriptive; we're always welcoming to interesting new characters. Assuming you've read the relevant background and have thought about how your character would interact in our world, all applications will be seriously considered, and any decent application is likely to be approved. :)
