So, I was dropped from the waitlist for the Computer Security class I was really excited about. This totally sucks. On the brighter side, I have 4 day weekends every week now (class: Tues-Thurs, free: Fri-Mon). This isn't as good as it sounds because I'm still carrying 16units and my Tuesday/Thursday schedule is out of control with 6hours of lecture straight (plus an hour of discussion on Thursday). I still have plenty of homework to get done, and I do need to get up to campus by 7pm on Mondays to put some written HW in a drop box. Still my time should be very flexible.
Anyway, the point of this post is not an update about what's going on with me (though I should do one of those soon). The idea is to make a list of things I would like to do, then during my long ass weekends, get out an do them. While I'm at it I may list some things I want to do at some later date, like skydiving after I graduate.
The reason I'm posting this publicly on LJ is because I want my friends to join me in all the little adventures I can find. Enough nonsense, here's the list:
- Go be a tourist in SF: See landmarks, Alcatraz, get up high in a skyscraper, so on...
- Go fishing, the usual methods, and maybe something new like sharks and sturgeon
- Have a snobby wine, cheese and bread picnic in a big vacant field
- Explore Tilden
- Go on bike rides, start along the bay trail maybe
- Use my map on paths in Berkeley, and walk down all of them, check 'em off
- Listen to more Security Now
- Go to the Tea Garden in SF on a nice foggy day
- Sky diving, after I graduate, maybe hang gliding too
- Brew some beer with my new kit
- Get the yard in shape and get a garden going
- Go rock climbing, bouldering in the Berkeley hills, and also in doors at Iron Works
- Go check out the career center, and see what's out there
- KILL ALL THE ANTS!!! Need more bait
- When I have money, build NAS
- Set up old computer to do something, using Linux, and at least start really learning about Linux
- Go earn some money, don't want a real job now, just cheap labor for family probably
- Set up sweet potato storage, eat as many as humanly possible
- Set up kitchen computer, watch Good Eats, make food with the guys
- Properly assemble my room
- Set up aquarium, and upgrade, get shrimp?
- Name the Betta. Lawrence? Seaborg?
- Make lunches for school, canned salmon?
- Make sushi, maybe just eat raw salmon fillet
- Look into abalone diving (might not be in time for this season), get wetsuit
- Bring Marie's camera everywhere and take photos when out with friends
Update 9/15 12:03am:
- Go camping, probably including fishing
- Go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium
My problem is that I take my free time and just soak it up being lazy, and not planning ahead. It feels great, but I think I'll be even happier if I put a little effort into getting out there and scheduling some fun times. I think I'll add to this list later, and hopefully come back and say, "Yeah, did that! Leaving it on the list so I do it again."
Please, anyone who's interested in joining on this stuff, let me know. I want you there. Especially Mondays and Fridays, while most of the world is at work. I didn't bother to add hanging out with friends, drinking beer, going to restaurants, seeing movies and so on, because I already do that. And it's great, I intend to continue, but I don't need to remind myself.
