hrm. current fandom climate is strange.
i have SUITS things i want to say, but where to say them? only a few people here on LJ are likely interested. other options are twitter - if i could fit it in 140 characters, which i cannot - or tumblr, where it would be read by a bunch of strangers. idk how comfortable i am with that yet, especially as most of it is pure nonsense. hrm, i say, hrmm.

so, the creator of suits, aaron korsh, often has q&a's on his twitter. i've perused his @replies, and he actually answers most of the questions he gets (he's usually answered the ones i've asked, which has been nice). he even answers the really dumb and/or repetitive ones. he has explicitly said in the past that he won't answer questions that involve spoilers, however.
so a few weeks ago i asked: any thoughts on introducing a gay character and/or storyline at some point?
the q&a ended shortly after i posted my question and i didn't get a response. i figured maybe he didn't see it in time. no big. about a week later he had another q&a and i thought, why not, it's a legitimate question, and one i haven't seen before, so i asked it again.
no response.
i re-read my question to make sure i didn't accidentally sound rude or confrontational. i specifically worded it as "introducing" to avoid him unintentionally inferring anything slash-related (i'm not asking for mike/harvey here, people). i can't actually see anything objectionable with it; i think it's both pretty benign and perfectly valid. it could easily have been answered with a "perhaps!" or "maybe" or "nothing planned yet, but we'll see" or even "i just try to write interesting characters, their sexual preference isn't important," any of which i would have gladly accepted (esp as he's totally used "i just try to write interesting characters" before when asked about why he writes such strong female characters).
but instead there was no response. twice. and i just find it peculiar. (and no, i won't be asking again; i've seen him get testy with people who repeatedly ask the same question). it's certainly possible that he just missed my question again, or chose not to answer it for any number of reasons, but... i'm choosing to go with: THE ANSWER IS A SPOILER.
i mean, it could be! WE DON'T KNOW. iirc, they haven't had a single gay character on the show yet. i'd say they're due. the only new character as of late is katrina bennett, played by amanda schull, and... hey, that could be interesting! or maybe there's some storyline in one of the remaining three episodes left this season. idk! i just find the whole thing kind of curious now, so WE SHALL SEE. STAY TUNED.
this next bit is likely interesting to even fewer of you, lollll, as it involves SHOES (i am me), but not actually the kind you would think! alas, it's true. last october patrick j adams betrayed me when he posted this photo to his instagram.
VANS. you can imagine my face. it looked something like this: O_O
they were filming the back half of season 2 (airing now!). iirc, we've only ever seen mike ross in his dress shoes or converse when he's not working. but now he was wearing VANS with his work pants. huh. [and i know they put PJA in suits and converse for advertising purposes, but that's just an easy symbol to convey his youth/inexperience/etc - never does he ACTUALLY wear chucks to work. could you even imagine?? laser beams shooting out of harvey's bitchface for eternity.]
and then last month on a re-watch of the first half of season two, in 207 specifically, i noticed this:
!!! MICHAEL JAMES ROSS WHAT THE HELL ARE ON YOUR FEET. i literally scrambled to rewind and confirm what i had seen. THOSE ARE VANS, SIR. AT WORK. in what world would harvey specter be okay with that?! in the scenes before and after he's wearing his regular dress shoes (even with his bike), and it's just not logical that he would sit down to change his shoes like mister rogers before reviewing a box of files, so. i'd guess it was just a flub, and his feet weren't meant to be seen in that shot. (but they were and no one noticed or cared - except for me lolll. /o\)
so then cut to a few weeks ago when we got these promo shots of episode 212.
WELL HUH. i still couldn't imagine a world where HARVEY REGINALD SPECTER would be okay with his associate, mike YOU ARE A REFLECTION OF ME ross, wearing SNEAKERS to work. it just didn't compute! AND YET. EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. *HANDS*
well, 212 aired and guess what. his feet weren't actually seen in either of those shots. those are clearly his FUCK OFF MY FEET ARE OUT OF FRAME I'M WEARING MY COMFY SHOES shoes. mystery solved. :D
and me being me (read: ridiculous), i'm delighted that canonically mike ross still only wears converse, and not vans. to some of us (read: ONLY ME), these things are important. pja, however, who's been so good to me in the past, clearly needs a talking to. :| :|
