random whatnot about my life, cut for length, topics including: work, my house, mcr stuff, shows, and tv. woo.
work
work is busy, which is great! insert ka-ching ka-ching noises here. the only downside, really, is that it cuts into my fun-time at work, and then i'm too exhausted to do much of anything at night from home. it's taken me over a week to type up this one LJ entry. but whatever, there are worse problems to have (lol understatement), and i'll take busy over slow ALWAYS. ka-ching ka-ching.
house
so... slight set-back. turns out the renovations are going to be a LOT more money (thanks, county permit dept! *finger*), and take almost twice as long. any hopes of being in before the new year have been shot to hell. :\ but at this point, it was either, just repaint and leave everything as is, or if i'm going to go for it, then just GO FOR IT and suck it up. ngl, there was a wobbly day and a tear or two may have spilled, but i'm okay now. it's not the end of the world. i've sacrificed a lot to get this far, it would be a shame to let an extra couple of months stop me now. but still. :(((
so while we wait to get started (the permit could take up to 8 weeks to go through, waughhh), i've been doing a lot yard work. the back looks a zillion times better than when i first got the house. the sellers clearly hadn't pruned or... done anything except (minimally) water in the last ten years. the parts that weren't nearly dead were so overgrown that i didn't even realize i had a lime tree! how awesome is that? of course, it's been so poorly treated that there's no fruit on it, but hopefully with a little tlc, next year will show improvement!
one gardening dilemma i have is grasshoppers. i know they're evil things that eat and destroy, but they're also really cool (and creepy) looking. and big! i certainly can't bring myself to snuff them out like i would ants or the occasional spider. what do i dooooooooo? there are at least three eating their way through this one plant. :( i keep spraying water at them and knocking them off the plant - they don't seem to like that - in the hopes that they'll eventually get so annoyed that they move on. so far it's not very effective. they just jump back on and continue munching away. >:[ which is maybe good, bc now i'm getting pissed and less concerned for their well-being. but i don't want to kill them. :( but they're killing my plant. :( wah. :( dumb destroying things that make me wibbly. :(
danger days: the true lives of the fabulous killjoys
so, honestly, when i heard what the album was likely going to be named (it was an unconfirmed rumor at the time), i was disappointed. not that it's not a great name, it is, but because that was the name of the comic. a comic i was very much looking forward to, about a group of people hunting down their ramones records, and this... wasn't that. this was mcr, and... idk, i wanted something new and magical (and separate), not a hijacked idea because gerard's brain couldn't focus elsewhere. idk, i was just bummed. i mean, i LOVE gerard's comics and i LOVE mcr. they're both equally awesome, awesome things!! i just didn't want them overlapping. i felt very
"you got your chocolate in my peanut butter." "you got your peanut butter in my chocolate." and so i grumped (to no one but myself, but still). :(
what i failed to realize, even using the above analogy, is that they were making a fucking REESE PEANUT BUTTER CUP, otherwise known as one of THE BEST THINGS EVER CREATED TOP OF THE HALLOWEEN CANDY FOOD CHAIN HELLOOOOOOO. god, what a moron, right? i wanted to punch myself in the face after seeing that trailer of awesomesauce. (i'm guessing they scrapped that whole ramones idea for the comic, and if this is what we're getting instead, i am not complaining one bit. om nom nom.) it was just plain silly of me to doubt them, to doubt gerard's brain. i really should know better by now. jeeeeeez.
so now with the trailer, na na na (which has been stuck on repeat for over a week now), and the recent album reviews that have popped up, all i can say is: november has never felt so far away. ;____; ALBUM. NEED. HEART. HOLE. PLISSSSSS. ♥___♥
tour
and as much as i would like to see our band on stage, like, YESTERDAY, i am actually relieved to hear that they won't be doing a full US tour until next year. i was getting really anxious with each date announced overseas, fearful that US dates were next and i'd have to somehow come up with $$$$ for shows - which i so don't have. not to mention possibly taking time off (vegas? sf?), etc. i just can't (easily) justify that. srsly, mcr, this timing of yours kind of blows. but you're forgiven bc ♥mcr♥.
so yes. tour sometime next year. my house should be move-in ready by spring, and i could (presumably) even host a fangirl or two for LA dates in my brand spankin' new guest room. :D and sure, i'll still be broke, but hopefully the BIG STUFF will be done with by then, and i'll have a bit more flexibility with my schedule. fingers crossed, anyhow.
but in the meantime, a show at a tiny, intimate, local venue would be nice. or kroq's almost acoustic christmas. i wouldn't say no to that.
tom lenk (aka andrew from buffy/angel)
last week i saw tom lenk's one man show, where he told anecdotes and sang songs about his six month experience living in nyc and performing on ~~broadway~~, which wasn't as glitzy and glamorous as he had hoped. he was utterly delightful, as anyone familiar with andrew might expect, and included talk of handsies and blowsies and getting laid by cute, puerto rican, taylor lautner types, which i was not expecting, but thoroughly enjoyed. \o/ and in case you missed the memo (i only found out a few months ago), apparently tom's been officially out for the last several years. so, if you love andrew like i do, and tom lenk comes to your town, i highly recommend going.
muse
i saw muse at the staples center last saturday! THEY WERE AMAZING. WOW. i'd never seen them live before, and HOLY MOLY they fucking rocked that shit. *____* this show also marked the last of my tickets purchased prior to going broke. i had a pretty good run there for a few years, lots of amazing shows and cherished memories. things are going to get pretty sparse from here on out - though you wouldn't know it from this surprisingly busy week: the glass menagerie with ben mckenzie last night and seeing empires tonight (thank you, glorious benefactors! ♥).
tv
there is too much. let me sum up. glee! castle! cougar town! the event? being human!! top model (go weirdo ann!), project runway (go... mondo? sure, mondo!), amazing race (most awkward way to get to know your biological mom y/y??), and... too many others to mention. oh! and the walking dead (premiering oct 31 on amc) looks like it's going to be AMAZING. being the latest to everything, i just bought the first trade of the comic last weekend. YAY ZOMBIES. :D
aaaaaand, that's all i got. hi, flisters! happy almost weekend! big plans?
