This afternoon I left home to go to the gym: I was walking, feeling the wind over my coat, when I took a deep breath (I quite strange thing, since I've been coughing for the whole last month) and smelled the autumn air. Then I realized - that is, I remembered - how the autumn air smell was like: I felt like having recognized a precious old friend. Secondly, I summed up my collection of "season feelings" and found out that they're all connected with a different part of the day and a smell.
Since I was a child, I was aware of the coming of autumn when, after summer days, I smelled in the air the cold smell of the wind, which feels like sparkling water, and the smell of late afternoon, or maybe already early evening, that welcomes you with his coolness, which is to be increased everyday until winter comes.
On the other hand, the moments I prefer in winter are very late at night, around 3:00 a.m. Sometimes you suddenly wake up, open your eyes in obscurity, feel the warm sensation of your body under the duvet, smell the air in which the heat of the radiator is mixed with a mysterious draft coming from the outside and reminding you of how cold a winter night is, and how lucky you are.
I usually notice that spring is arriving when I leave my house in April (or even March sometimes) mornings to go to school: the air smells like "you bore the winter coldness till now, but now you are free!", it invites you to wear only a jacket without a shiver, and you can often smell the very sprouts while they are re-brought to life.
Finally, the best season smell of mine is the summer one, even if summer is not my favorite season: the best smell you can find is the one you feel in late evenings. For example, when you go out and have dinner in a restaurant with your friends, and when you finish the weather is like "you can go on, night's not finished yet". If, next year, you find yourself in a situation like that one, stop for a second, let the air come to your cheeks and smell it: it takes your arms gently and feels like its warmness will last forever and never hurt ar annoy you, while we all know how unbearable a summer day can be, and unluckily a summer day always follows summer night...
Sorry for this dreamy post, I usually don't write texts like this one. If someone reads it, please let me know if you like it or not and if I made mistakes.
