So, today is September 11th.
I actually forgot for the better part of the day, but I remembered once I saw all the documentaries about it on National Geographic.
I'm a total scatterbrain, I know.
Where was I on 9/11?
Probably in school. I was around...8 years old. And I didn't know that anything had happened.
I was actually a pretty oblivious kid, in general. I had no idea the year 2000 marked the start of a new millennium. How sad, XD
Joking aside...
My parents remember the day quite vividly. My dad heard from some other parents at my elementary school, and didn't believe them. And then he went back home, turned on the news, and saw what was going on, watching in shock. And watching the images of the towers collapsing and the debris and smoke cloud descending upon N,Y was really...shocking, now that I have the maturity to appreciate what happened. Actually, before today, I never really paid much thought to the events of 9/11. Sure, it was scary and everything, but it just seemed so far away from Canada (and we supposedly consider ourselves a wonderful cultural mosaic. Or something. So nothing would ever happen here, RIIIGHT?).
But something really COULD happen here. There's a definite possibility. A terrorist plot was actually discovered in Ottawa, and thankfully thwarted. But the possibility of future threats still exists. Although I don't feel particularly threatened here, since the area I live in has a strong Asian community more than anything else (although there ARE Muslim people here, don't get me wrong).
But yeah. Just got me thinking...
